By spreader, I meant whatever you have laying around in the garage that's about 16" long. :)

    A 2x4 will work nicely.

Yeah, there's no room for a deep socket on top of the cross member.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I'm going to time Nathan while he installs it on my truck. I have the hardest task of sitting in a chair and drinking a beer.

No problem at all. Happy to help out and I had to see your truck in person. It's badass. That accessory box you made is sweet too!

Thanks for showing me around the shop. I am going to slowly introduce the idea at home and see how far I can get. ;)

I get how this will allow a rock to slide off the tank, but will it keep a rock from smashing the tank. I understand nothing is smash proof

Gas tanks are probably more prone to being scraped and punctured than smashed.

They can also be dented in as well. I don't know if that's how you would define smashed, but it comes to mind for me.

This skid, would probably help with everything you mentioned, to the extent of a steel skid I am not too sure. I almost feel like this would be comparable with aluminum, but again I'm not too sure. Interested to know as well though.

Yea...dented or smashed. This is probably plenty beefy for me if the OP uses it. I've seen some of his wheeling pics. Still curious how well it would save the tank from dents or being "smashed".

The issue with all of the aftermarket skids is that they're held up with the gas tank straps. If you come down hard enough on the tank you're going to compress it. The straps will deflect.

Scrapes and punctures are what we're really worried about.

Thanks...I found some more post describing how it works and the thought process behind it. I'm in. I may get the wife to help the kids order one off your website for my upcoming bday.

Turns out cutting vinyl decals isn't that much fun, but i did it anyway. :D

Everyone that ordered a skid will receive a sticker.
