So here's how a stock Tacoma lift compares to a 15" lift.

That's a slick truck. The 15" lifted truck isn't bad either

1.There's another way to get 15" of lift?
    2. If you put that much money into a show truck like that would you take it off-roading? I wouldn't so there's no need for 4wd.
    3. It still looks amazing. Building trucks isn't about a specific type. Onroad. Offroad. Lifted. Lowered. It's about the art of transforming a stock truck into your vision whatever it may be. I think any truck that has that much care put into it deserves respect.

I'll probably get flamed for putting that on this forum but oh well. That's how I feel.

Well, I'll give you a little crap, just for the fun of it though haha. I believe there's a difference between mods for function and mods for aesthetics. Anybody who does a functional mod that serves a purpose, shouldn't get any crap for that. If countless dollars are spent on aesthetics, a purely subjective characteristic, and offer no functional benefit, then in my opinion it's a waste of money. Minor cosmetic mods are fine, but lifting a truck 15 inches and spending thousands of dollars on looks with no performance benefit is just pointless and stupid to me.

It was 1 of 3 Sema trucks there. So everything on them is a little excessive. I'm building my truck for me though. My friends tell me not to lift it cause it's 2wd, so what. It's my truck that I'm throwing the money at. Whether my lightbar is just for show or to actually use in fields at night shouldn't matter to others.

Thanks Mason. I'm just slowly working her into truck meets.

I tend to favor subtle modifications and at the end of the day prefer a mostly OEM looking truck. Others favor modifications that better enable them for what they use their truck for...work, hauling, offroading, racing, etc.. Others emulate the appearance they do those things but rarely if ever actually do. At the end of the day, different people are in it for different things. Whether for form or function...it's still just a dude in his garage working on something that he takes pride in.

Or a guy that pays a shop to work on his truck so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty. Believe it or not there were a lot of guys like that in Louisiana.

There are tons of different types of people out there. That's your opinion which I respect because you are sticking with it. But there are people out there that enjoy having nice things to drive. It's kind of like getting a blue sea fuse panel over 12 inline fuses. The both function the same but the blue sea system look amazing while doing it. So there is a line where it becomes overkill but if you can afford to cross it and want a beautiful show truck then it's your money and your opinion that truly matters. Just my $0.02

Very true. I like my Tacoma because it's the first I've ever bought. I graduated college, got a good job, bought a house...and then when my son was born I was able to rationalize upgrading from my hand-me-down single cab Chevy to keep the car seat in the back seat. Because I got to choose it and I do take pride in it, I find myself switching from the "pay the shop" guy to someone who is doing some of his own maintenance and things. It's fun learning because it's all foreign to me. Those shop guys are missing out. I'm not a full blown do it yourselfer yet...but that's why I'm here.

It would be neat to see some of those SEMA trucks in person though. Crazy how much money is put in to them.

A buddy and I are trying to get to sema this year. I tried to use my uncles shop to register but when he passed a couple years ago my aunt ended up closing out his corporate entity. I need to find someone that will let us register under their company's name now. Sema is bucket list for him and I!
