Every Friday my work buddies and I go the pub after work. Every time I get there I yank the e-brake handle and go inside for a beer.

Today when I yanked the handle instead of coming 3 inches out and securing my truck, it came 15 inches out and accomplished nothing. It did not diminish the quality of the beer in the least, however.

When I got home and slid under the truck I found that the 12 year old line parted under the driver's door. I need two new parts. One is the line itself, the other is the torsion spring that releases the line (both are broken).

I find that Rock Auto has many different parking brake cables of varying lengths. They seem to have no return springs.

Can anyone help me with part numbers for the cable and the return spring?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I think the cable connects to the rod with a pin to hold it, you sure the pin just didn't fall out?

I'll look again, but the end under the truck is frayed and rusty. I'm thinking "broke".

Thanks. I didn't mention it in my original post, but I'm driving an xtra cab. I saw a couple of different cable lengths. Is the part you've listed right for my cab?

You tried entering your VIN number on a Toyotaonlineparts shop Matt?. That will/should give you a selection of the std and xtra cables. Those can be a bit vauge,,but it gives you a better start point as far as finding correct parts.

The numbers I posted above was using my VIN.

Got it. Ordered the cable from rock auto for half the dealer price. Ordered the spring from the local dealer - price was a little high, but less than online price with shipping. Should be back in business next week.

    Thanks

Well, don't thank me just yet. Lets see what they send you first,,lol.

Either way, let us know, and am glad to help in some fashion.

Once you get it back in order,,keep some slick'm on those moveable parts along the chassis to the back. A person takes that system for granted sometimes. I did for a time. It is a emergency brake and it needs to work smoothly.

Brought a old chevy truck 220 miles home using one of those systems. Bypassed the t handle release and just used the left side ebrake pedal along with manual trans compression braking. Wouldn't have gone that far if it was a automatic. It would have been rollbacked all the way here.

The cable came today. Pretty easy re-install. I have an e-brake, again. The return spring is supposed to be in tomorrow.

    Thanks again.
