"This happens to be one of those times when I strongly disagree with the decision made by the good men in the Player Safety Committee not to take further disciplinary action against Tyler Toffoli of the Los Angeles Kings for his reckless cross-check delivered to the back of Alexandre Burrows of the Canucks on Saturday night.


This is a highly dangerous play that could result in catastrophic injury to an unsuspecting player when he is contacted from behind and launched into the boards head first. While most fortunately, Burrows was only shaken up and returned late in 3'rd period to take a shift, the wrong message is being sent to simply say that a 5 minute major penalty and game misconduct assessed by the referee for boarding is adequate punishment. This is a very dangerous play that must be extricated from the game. Any resulting suspension should be ruled upon for the act itself and not the end result!

Given the entire circumstance and magnitude of the illegal hit, I have to believe that the absence of injury to Burrows, and quite possibly a tight playoff race that the defending Stanley Cup Champions are currently engaged in, had to play a part in the decision by the Player Safety Committee not to take further action against Tyler Toffoli. While I am quite certain that the PSC receives pressure from various sources on all potential suspensions, the wrong message is being sent with this decision no matter how, or who arrived at it."
