THat looks like an awesome size. Having lived in a hotel room for over a year (over 450 days since 2011!!!) it makes one appreciate how little you actually need space wise. I go home to my house and just look at all the...stuff.

Someday ill build a simple cabin like yours

What is the price difference for the spray in foam? I was hoping to insulate myself so as to keep price down.

Planning to put a small porch on the front with a shed type roof.

Spray in 2lb foam is considerably more expensive than fibreglass batts

I figured it might be, but wasn't sure. What does 'considerably' mean?

How does the end R value compare? If greater, you'd want to re figure a 'cost per R', not just a cost per square foot.

Isn't there an advantage by stopping air leaks as well?

To the OP, you're doing a great job. If you go with batts, do them right too. Most places I've inspected in the past don't. Those 'ears' on the batts go on the face of the stud/joist/truss, not shoved inside. Meaning when you are done, the whole inside of the place should appear as brown kraft paper, no wood showing. This allows the glass to fully expand in the space; the common way compresses it. Max R comes from max filling of the cavity.

Cost of foam installation varies by locale , here it is about 1 1/2 times more expensive than batts for the same R value . 2lb foam will create an air / vapour barrier above a certain thickness , I believe it is 2" . A well detailed vapour barrier over batts can be effective against air leaks as well .

Vapour barrier requirements and effective techniques also change with locale and regional temperature factors too though .

I've read that having your electrical wires and audio/video/network cables too close to each other in the wall can cause signal issues. Can anyone vouch for that or have experience with this supposed issue?

We usually seperate them by a minimum 1' if they are running in parallel

This is awesome man. You're living my dream and are a modern day Dick Proenneke. Super stoked to see the progress here… I've lived out west for years and recently moved back to the midwest, and my five year plan is to get back out there debt free and do the same as you are. Good for you.

Curious, how are land prices out there? I had looked and was thinking more along the lines of AZ or CO, as I've lived in that area before… but man Wyoming/Montana/Washington looks pretty nice as well. Any hospitals nearby? I'm an RN to pay the bills.

Keep it up man, looks great!

Yeah. It has some pretty cool grain. I might throw some tung oil on it once it warms up a bit.
