Hey TW, I have been searching and I haven't found anybody with quite the same setup and question as me.

I have 17" Aluminum Sport wheels that I want to keep on my truck. Currently I have Billies set at 1.75 and 1.5" AAL in the rear. Right now I'm running stock tires 265/65/17. But I want bigger tires because they look Bad A**.

What is the largest tire tire that I can fit on a stock rim without it rubbing? FYI I've already removed the Mudflaps. Thanks A lot!

To run reliably and without any chance of issues, 265/70/17 is the largest id run, especially since you're using the stock wheels with the stock backspacing, which isnt a bad thing, keeping the stock wheels is never a bad idea.

    Yes sir
I run 285/70/R17 BFG KO's and I don't rub a whole lot, I don't rub on the mud flaps that I know of, I only rub on the front fender when the wheels are turned pretty sharp. I think you're going to rub with anything bigger, 275/70/R17 tires might fit without rubbing but I'm not positive on that. However, like I said, my 33's rub a bit but not a ton. You can trim the front fender but I'm going to wait until my new UCA's arrive and see how the alignment works along with my new lift.

Also, I'm running my 33's with a 2" lift at the moment but am just waiting for my OME lift to arrive now which will be 3 inches. I think 33's should work on your truck but they will rub a bit, again, you can trim the front fender or just roll with it. :D

Edit: I'm also on my stock rims

That's really it? Ok so what does that add one inch? I heard you could run 265/75/17 And I called Tire Rack about 265/75/17 and they don't even carry them and the guy said he's never heard of that size. Anybody know for sure?

"Really it" as in 285's are the max? Cause 33's are big tires.

In my opinion: 33's with 2-3 inches of lift and 35's with 6 inches of lift. IMHO, you can't have too little or too much wheel well gap. If your tire is filling your wheel well, it looks too cluttered. If your tires are small and you have a huge gap in the wheel well it just looks stupid to say the least haha (sorry Hawaii guys...).

If I remember correctly, the "75" applies to the diameter or the width of the tire, 75's will give you a bit more sidewall if I remember correctly but I don't think they're going to give you that "bad a**" look your after

Yes, 75 refers to the sidewall , or aspects ratio, the first number, the 265 or whathave you refers to the tire width... and the last number refers to the wheel size that the tire fits on.

I'm sorry I should have been specific. I want the tallest tires that can for on a stock 17" rim. But it looks like 265/70 is the tallest

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you can go as big as you want as long as the tires you get are for 17 inch rims. I.e. 285/70/R17's would work, 295/70/R17's, 305/70/R17's, or 315/70/R17's. The problem is that you don't have enough wheel well space for these tires aside from 285/70/R17's which are 33" tires. For the amount of lift you have currently, you can fit 285's in but you WILL rub on the front.

Let's restart, is there a tire your looking at right now? Because different companies have different sizes in different tires. Locate a tire you like the looks of depending on what you plan on doing. If you want to live and breathe in a mud hole, get a mud tire. If you want something that is decent in everything but not outstanding in any specific terrain, get an A/T tire, and etc. What do you plan on wheeling in?

I don't wheel or off road. My Taco is a Daily Driver for me. But I thought the changes you are noting are for tire width not height. Or does the height change along with the width?

From my very limited understanding I thought 265/70/17 was the same height as a 285/70/17. But that 285/70/17 would be wider and not taller Is that incorrect?

This is a tire size calculator with all the specifics, 265's are about 32" tires and 285's are about 33" tires. It depends on the brand you go with for hard measurements, this is just a ballpark comparison essentially because different tires have different tread patterns, for example a mud tire has a deeper tread than a highway tire.

The height of 285's would be 33 inches, the width is approximately 11 inches. Everything changes on a bigger tire, it doesn't seem like a ton of difference on paper but from experience, my 33's are much larger than the stock 32's.

Awesome calculator! I meant to mention I just ordered some 1.5" spacers as well. And just to be clear 285/70/17's will rub even with the Mudflaps removed?

Yes, tires don't usually rub on mud flaps to begin with from my experiences, the truck just looks better without them. You'll rub on the front of the wheel well here:

Also I believe Tcbob created the calculator :D

Those 285's sound perfect but what's the big deal with rubbing outside of the noise? And when people say trim they are cutting way at the actual body of the truck?

Well to start the picture is the front of your wheel well. Picture yourself standing beside your drivers side door facing towards the front of the truck. Now look down at your tire and that picture is what is in front of the tire. When you turn your tires pretty sharp, the side of the tire catches against that portion of the wheel well and the plastic kind of scratches back and forth on the tire. It's not a huge problem or anything, sounds worse than it actually is I'd say. I don't think it could be torn off unless you're wheeling really hard and just grinding your tire against it pretty hard.

Now for trimming, some guys trim away at that portion of the wheel well's plastic so that the tire has nothing to scratch against. Some guys cut a piece out and zip tie the rest back. You are cutting part of the plastic from the frame I guess. Just check out your truck's wheel well and you'll recognize the picture pretty quick.

Also, when you buy tires, just ask the mechanic to see how they'll look on the truck, he might have photos of something similar or if he's nice enough he might just charge you for mounting them on your rims assuming you don't like the look. But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you will like 33's with your truck.

You can also buy aftermarket spacers which push the rim (and subsequently the tire) out farther. You can't go with too large a spacer though or else you'll still rub but on the edge of the fender.

I already orders some 1.5" spacers . I hope that doesn't hurt me. But since I'm keeping my stock rims it's the only way I know of to get that aggressive stance that aftermarket where's with good back spacing give you. I think I'm going to play it safe and get 265/70/17 although I really want the 285's it sounds like I'm gonna be rubbing with my 2" lift.

Oh wait, are you getting a 1.5" levelling spacers to lift your truck more or are you getting 1.5" wheel spacers? Like I said, talk to the guy who you're buying your tires from, 285's will rub a bit but not a ton, I only rub when I'm turning my wheels all the way. 265/70/R17's are going to be pretty well the same as what you currently have.

I'm getting 1.5" Wheel Spacers. And you have a 2" lift and barely rub I only have Billies set at 1.75". So I'm assuming I'm going to rub more than you. Plus the wheel Spacers might make it worse

Yea, that's probably your best choice, also if you like the 285's and the mechanic says the wheel spacers will make the tires rub worse, just return them, every online place should have a return policy, especially if they aren't used. Otherwise, selling them online always works.
