2014 DCLB Trd 4x4- Recently added 3" lift with 33" tires (Open Country R/T).....Obviously I knew that MPG would suffer but I was trying to get a feel for what most people with similar setups are getting. I had a 6 hour drive the other day and after figuring mileage after filling up and topping off, I was averaging around 14 mpg. Sound about average or am I way below norm? And if so, any recommendations for easing the sting a little? (besides the obvious, <2000rpm and egg under the gas pedal)

    Thanks guys for any info!

Yep, depending on the type of driving that was recorded(city vs highway, warm up times, weather, etc..) this sounds normal for the Tacoma with the upgrades.
There is no secret to better mileage except for keeping up with maintenance and the rpms around 2k or lower if possible.
    The best of luck.

If it's any consolation I'm sure your truck looks much better at the pump than it used to. At least you aren't paying 5 bucks a gallon like your neighbours to the north.

Are you figuring out the mileage accurately?

In other words...Your speedometer & Odometer aren't going to be accurate because of the larger tires. Sorry, had to ask it....as its something people don't think about often.

I averaged 14mpg after my lift and tires on my old 2011 which was a 6speed.

My new 2013 has 32" highway tires and is at 17.

Neverstuck--Very true, I do completely agree with you! I would trade the upgrades for the mileage loss....definately love the new look.

JANSTER- Thank you for that! I actually never thought about the odometer. The speedometer I know I am off a few mph.....but never thought about the ODO. Any idea how much I may be off on mpg based on your knowledge of this stuff??

Are your new tires E-load range? If so, theyre pretty heavy for this truck, and take a lot of your MPGs.

Correct me if i am wrong, but the mileage shouldnt be THAT far off just due to the bigger wheelset... might read a couple miles less per tank? maybe 10 less miles at the most?

Ranger-yes they are E rating so I guess that could contribute. I liked the style and look of these tires plus functionality, however I have thought about trying something else once these are a wrap. suggestions?

    MPG sounds about right.

33's load range e 4x4 and a lift, thats gonna start killing mpgs.

FYI i just got 20.83mpg on a 700mi round trip from ventura to mammoth and back... but thats with ~ a 2in lift front and rear, and light P265/75R16's

I typically average 17-18mpg on my normal work commute which is 20mi round trip a day

I have 285 70 17s 4x4 DCSB and average 16-17 in town, but my tires are P rated not LT so they are lighter. I also have SCS stealth 6 wheels which are pretty light too

    Some really cool shit
My truck came with a 3" lift and 33's from the Dealer. They also adjusted the Speedo/Odometer with some gizmo that they then gave to me. At least I think it adjusted the odometer, as well. I am now beginning to wonder as my mileage is already nearing 12,000 miles and I only bought the truck in September. I did make a run to Bend Oregon and back. Then there was pheasant season in which I was doing a couple hundred miles once every two weeks. Then it's a 54 mile round trip to work every day. So, yeah, I think the odometer was adjusted as well. Anyway, ask your dealer about that tool.

If you're really concerned about your odometer do a 50 mile trip - zero one of your trip odometers, measure either by mile marker or a GPS, and compare. My (almost) brand new Michelin P tires in stock size read 2.1% higher on truck odometer compared to calibrated ScanGauge.
