Josh how many hours a day do you get in on that project? Seems like you are knocking it out really fast.

thanks guys. it feels like this is taking forever. I've been spending anytime that i'm not at work, working on the bathroom. probably close to 8-12 hours a day. original goal was less thank a week. now i'm at 2 1/2 weeks with quite a bit left to do. to make matters worse, yesterday i got a stomach virus or something. couldn't stop puking all day/night. today i'm feeling better, but not well enough to do any work in the bathroom.

tyler- the kerdi membrane sucked ass. the first wall i did, i didn't have wet enough thinset, so it didn't stick at all. next time i'll spend the extra $ and get kerdi board instead. would've saved me so much time and frustration.

also yesterday i had a bolt of lightning hit a neighbors tree, and now 2 of our tvs won't work. anyone have any experience fixing tv's?

Da fuq? You think it was a surge type of issue? Or is your cable out kind of thing?

Also projects always take at least double the time you think they will no matter if it's for a house or truck. :p Hope you feel better dude.

Oh didn't know you installed it already.. Yea, there are definitely some tricks to getting it to come out right. The Kerdi board is pretty nice but kinda speedy IMO; but def a timesaver. GL with the rest of the project!

Dude ain't that the truth! But as they say " nothing worthwhile comes easy"

Call your homeowner's insurance agent first. Chances are the tv's are toast, between the EMP and associated surge, they will never be the same.

I would have to agree with Murph on this one. About a year ago we had a very similar power surge on my street, we only lost our coffeemaker, however we had multiple neighbors lose TVs and computers do to it.:(

Would a surge suppressor have protected the tv's from the overflow of electricity?

    Looking good!

Hey, at least you had a nice partially finished bathroom to puke in. :D. That virus is really going around. Emily caught it in daycare and then Jen caught it. Mother night I was leaving for the ABC Show in AC and thought I was safe. I started showing the symptoms down there.

Haha, nice! Glad to see things are back to normal.

 just a question... I'm surprised Josh being a linemen didn't have them on a surge suppressor knowing stuff like that can happen. Or maybe he did. Idk. Just a question.

Depends on the surge. It it's from a lightning strike? Probably not.

I have a whole house surge protector and my tv was plugged into a surge protector. Not just a power strip.

Yea I was surprised too. And I've never seen lightning so close or thunder so instantly after the lightning, and as loud as that. Neighbor had pictures fall off the wall from the thunder.

    I've heard they don't help. But I don't see why they shouldn't.

    The update is:
My living room tv- 42" LG LCD 720P bought nov. 2008.
Symptoms- won't recognize hdmi inputs. Just says "no input" but the RCA cables for the DVD player it does recognize. Just won't recognize cable box, Apple TV, security system dvr.

Roommates tv- 50" insignia manufactured in 2010.
Symptoms- won't turn on, no status light, nothing.
I took the back off and checked the power board and video board and nothing looks burnt, it's getting proper voltage, fuse is good. YouTube videos say to try changing out both boards, but that's about $200 and not a guaranteed fix.

Probably not. I'm not sure what my deductible is, or if they would even cover this. If I had a brand new tv and my whole entertainment center got fried I would call them. But for this, I feel like it's not even worth it.

Just checked bestbuy.com and walmart.com. Looks like I could do pretty good for about $700

Looks good. How far away do you sit from it? I'm worried a 60" would be too big and give people headaches if they're sitting too close
