This. If you decide you don't like the color at some point down the road, re-wrap it.

OP, it sounds like you plan on keeping the truck (once the color mess is solved)...why lease instead of buy? Serious question, I've never leased or looked into leasing a vehicle, so it's my impression that you'd only lease if you knew you wanted to give it back.

Why dont you just save up for a decent paint job. I would go thru the hassle of selling and buying another if a simple paint job can fix your problems.

I can't believe you don't like MGM. My last Tacoma was MGM. I sold it out right and bought a pyrite mica Tacoma. I sold it so I could get a dclb plus the auto. I picked the colors of both though. I put a deposit down on the pyrite before it showed up at the dealer.

That's a horrible idea. It will kill his resale/trade in value. Everyone will wonder why it was painted. And a good paint job will never be as good as the factory one. Also he will be out a few grand too. Better to sell and buy what he wants.

I did after 9 months. MGM to SuperWhite

But it was more the Manual transmission to Automatic that made my decision.

But color did play a part.

I had an 08 Tacoma Silver in color. I traded a car in on it. I really liked black but there were no used ones on the dealer lot. Then this silver one came in with low miles and dealer maintained. I liked it at first. I hated the silver color after about 6 months. I kept it until 2012 and went to trade it on a 2012 Nissan Titan. I was happy with the black Titan Pro 4X, but after about a year, I was only using it to pull my boat. Way too much truck for what I was using it for. I traded it in on a used 2013 Black Tacoma SR5. I didn't like the front chrome grill or the original wheels after 5 months, so I installed a black grill and put on new wheels. Like the Tacoma.

My point is, if it makes you happy, and you can afford it, go for it. You cant take your money with you.

I don't get a new vehicle every few years. We had the Suburban that we traded for the Tacoma about 8 years and I have a Cherokee that's going on 10 years. I generally keep vehicles a long time, so that's why I'm considering this.

The most cost effective solution if you are good with keeping the truck clean is wrapping it. It'll cost about $3 to 4K to wrap a vehicle. If you flip your truck, will you lose that much or more. If you wait a few months the 2016 will be out and then really give yourself a reason to buy.

I would love a 2016, but I need to have regular cab....so it'll never happen. I personally like black and blue colors on cars and truck. MGM was my third choice, but I got a deal on it and it hides defects very well.

Black cars are higher maintenance...blue on Tacomas in my eyes look great. In your shoes, I wait until 2016 are out and buy that if you are willing to change trucks. BUT why are leasing a vehicle if you are planning on keeping the tacoma for a long time? Resale value on Tacomas are really high...don't make sense unless you got an amazing lease.

I disagree, for one the paint on these Tacomas pretty much suck alligator balls. Second if a good painter puts a good paint job on a vehicle using good materials etc. It'd be a much better paint job than these factory ones from Toyota.

Everybody saying haved it wrapped, why would anybody pay 2-4k!?! to vinyl wrap (especially a leased) vehicle, and how in the world is that cost effective? The only way to me wrapping makes sense is if you do it yourself, you'll probably spend a few hundred on vinyl. Not to mention sometimes down the road vinyl has been known to cause damage to paint, in some cases rip it up, even the good stuff. Not knocking a good wrap tho, it can look cool (I'd be leary of leaving it on for too long, but then a few hundred or 4k balled up in a couple of Hefty bags). You can get a pretty slick paint job for that.

OP if you get black :deadhorse:, think hard, listen to us, pain in the buttox "trying" to keep clean... If you have a garage, that'll help a little.

I've never seen a good paint job that cost $4K. But good is subjective. $4k paint job are outside only and not body work labor cost. I got quote $10K to paint the whole car I was planning to restore...that's rotisserie and painting the engine bay. If you have a gray car and paint the outside blue only per se...the door jams etc not painted... anyways I don't know where you got that wrap will damage paint. If the installer did stupid things yeah... or stories from 10 year old wrap technology. I don't like wrap either, but it serves a purpose. I"m sure $4K can be had...but it's on the really low end of a good job.

Op , either way you are going to lose money, if you can come to that understanding then get into the car you want. You can wrap a lease which is a complete waste of money especially considering its a LEASE, you can paint it and never get that money back, or you can get into a new 2016 and pay the difference. Either way you are taking a hit. If you are cool with taking a financial hit of 3-4K go for it. Most on this forum will say you only live once, you work too hard, yada yada, but its easy for those to say when they arent the ones dropping 4K because they dont like a color.

I am completely aware that I am going to take a hit...and I'm OK with that. What I'm doing now is working with a few different dealers trying to determine how much of a hit that will be. I have a number in my head that I'm OK with. If the loss exceeds that number I'll just keep it and reevaluate at the end of the lease period.

Painting or wrapping are not options that I'm considering. To me those make less sense than getting a different color truck. From the images I've seen of the gen3, I would rather make the jump now and get another gen2.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep you posted.

You leased a truck that you planned to keep for 10 years, intending to buy it out from the get-go?

I would seriously take that 3k and give it to a financial advisor.
