TRD exhaust and CAI

Hey guys,
Just got me a new 2015 Taco (TRD-off road) and am a bit underwhelmed at the power...must admit I've been driving a Tundra with the big V8 for a while - and know that the V6 isn't a V8.

My question is would the TRD exhaust and cold air intake, increase the peddle power any? Or would it just make the truck noisier?

 

I believe that the exhaust/CAI setup does give you a bit more power because of the increased amount of cold air flowing into the engine. If you really want a boost, a supercharger is what you'd be after. Problem is that they're pretty pricy at about $4000-$5000

 

Yep, the supercharger isn't in my future for a few years - but it is on the horizon.

 

Don't need to spend that much. Check out ebay. They have a turbo intake charger for $129.

Yea so the CAI should give you a few more HP but I don't think you're going to be amazed at the power output, especially if you're used to the V8.

 

But, it's that cheap for a reason

 

You will notice some more power.Nothing that will overwhelm you.millertime89 is on point in regards to the supercharger and the price.I had the funds for the supercharger back when i purchased my new 2012 that year but chose to put the funds towards other things.Alot of TW members on this forum can give you some quality info in regards to if your going to go that direction now or later.It's still on my Tacoma dream list!Absolutly love my 2012 though!

 

The TRD intake and exhaust seemed to wake up my 2010. I'm very happy I went with this setup, a supercharger is on the horizon for me but I'm not complaining about the current setup at all. But I'm coming from a 98 hp Scion xB.

 

Not sure about the Intake, but I went from the TRD Exhaust back to a Stock Exhaust and didn't notice any difference other than the lack of noise. They claim 5-7hp from the TRD Exhaust, but I don't feel any difference either way.

 

I always laughed at these. Manufacturers spend big bucks trying to engineer less turbulence in bringing in air in order to create better hp and this product does the complete opposite. Would love to see mythbusters on these.

 

Yea like I said, there's a reason why that thing is $120 compared to a real supercharger which is $4000-$5000

 

A few years ago, I had some spare money and wanted to see if I could get any significant gains out of the V6 even though all the threads on show only small gains. So i set out and started with the exhaust first. I bought a set of Doug Thorley headers along with the URD Competition Y-Pipe. I paired both of those with a Flowmaster 40 muffler that I had already. With the exhaust installed I only noticed throttle response (local dyno said gain of 1.5 hp). Next I put on a RBP CAI to see if that would change anything. I felt a little bit more power and heard alot more noise. I once again went to the dyno and this time only gained roughly 5 hp. I new this was going to happen, I just wanted to see what small gain I could get.

After the last dyno, the local shop had some programmer/chip that was tunable with a laptop that they used and the highest gain I got was only 10 hp. So after all the time and money that I spent, don't expect any thing massive for gains.

 

I am not sure what they used, I do remember them tuning it from a laptop. All of it was definitely a waste of money, which I new was most likely going to happen from the start, what I ended up with was a pretty sick exhaust, noisey CAI and no noticeable gains.

 

I actually think I remember what they used. I believe it was a Unichip.

 

Get some Short Tube Doug Thorley Headers and a custom 3" exhaust system with your muffler of choice. I also got me a Volant CAI with the Ram air scoop over the radiator.
