I haven't gone through this whole thread yet but I really need to say you should plate that frame, at least on the front side before you go any further with this build. The Tacoma frames are not strong enough to do what we do when we sas these trucks. Also I have to mention that when we did Ray's truck we used a similar tower and after the first run the tower was starting to collapse and bent the through bolt. We have since changed the design of that tower so the coilover is not a fulcrum in this design. Here is the first one we did with Rays and how we changed it.

Notice in the first picture how the bolt and the tower are bent. Wont use this type of setup again.

When then changed it to this....

And have since changed the tower entirely.

I just want to see you guys succeed with this project and for your customer to get a very good product once it's done.

These 2nd gen Tacomas are a heavy truck. I'm not so sure a Diamond axle with an 8" diff is strong enough for these trucks. I would just have Brian made that front a nine inch as well. At least with that you've got a much stronger center section and a bigger pinion support.

I love the idea of people trying to stay with Toyota running gear but when you cross over the 37" tire mark, there really isn't anything Toyota makes that is strong enough under these heavy trucks. Even in Australia some of the guys running bigger tires under their 70 and 80 series LC's are running Nissan Patrol axle's because the Toyota units just aren't strong enough. Just my 2 cents.

The plan from the beginning was to plate the frame. We only tack welded the coil bucket in place to check fitment and clearance. As far as the 8" housing goes, this particular rig is not going to see much abuse, per the customer. The Diamond 8" front is strong enough for what this customer is using it for.

Here's some more updated photos from the build process. The Currie F9 rear housing is hung under the rear frame, new Fox 2.5" compression adjustable shocks installed, and disc brakes are installed.

Very nice. Can I make one suggestion? Maybe take the panhard bar at the frame down an inch or two to make it mare parallel with the drag link. Or maybe you don't have the room. I'm not sure. Looks good though.

Final adjustments to the panhard bar will be made upon finishing up the front end and putting it on the ground. Same way with the Jeeps. They steer all over the place if the track bar isn't close to parallel with the drag link.

    Thanks for the love!

I think the customer is wanting to sell it as a complete housing, but I will find out for you tomorrow and give you the word.

    Cool, looks great.

80s blow up HP 8" 3rds all the time on 37s + but mostly in reverse up hill. But hey, if he knows what he wants he knows what he wants.

Great to see some more 2nd gens being built.

my 3.4L 5VZE in my 86 Hilux can break stuff easy on the front if I'm not paying attention, I hate to see what a twice as heavy rig with twice as much power can do. And it's going to have a crawl box too?

Getting the final fitment of the Fiberglass done today. After this just have to get the Cases and Crawl Box from Rock Solid and button up a few small things and it should be close to ready.
