Wow hope im not caught in the woods anywhere with someone "looking for their truck" by blindly shooting a rifle, I can understand panicking due to being lost but damn...could've easily killed somebody.

I generally prefer a map and compass, altho I usually also have my gps these days.

Reminds me of the dude who burnt about 100k acres of forest because he was lost and wanted someone to 'save him'.

I've been temporarily misplaced in the forest, but never so skeered I'd start firing in random directions.

Speaking as a firearms owner of over 4 decades, what gets old is people being stupid with firearms.

Reminds me of a time i was hiking at Falls Lake State Park here in Raleigh and heard some rifle shots.
I was heading back to my truck (which was parked up on a hill near the park boundary on a side road)
and the shots were damn close.

I yelled out and the guy stopped shooting thankfully as i climbed
the hill and cleared the woods,
i see this guy standing in the back of his pickup with a "what are you efn' looking at look"

I got up in his grill pretty quick with wtf are you thinking dude, you're firing
into a State Park with a GD rifle no less!!!
...(he was technically on the boundary of the Park, but firing into it over
    the trail i was on!)

He quickly realized the deal and hoped i wasn't a park ranger,
he jumped out of the bed and into his truck and got the heck out of there.

I reported his license plate and truck description...not sure if they
ever caught the guy, he had out of state (NY) plates?

I mean there's young and stupid (we've all been there), but
this was just crazy and after a few minutes i realized how lucky
i was and so glad he didn't hit me or somebody else...
there was a family with a couple kids on the trail not that far behind
    me.

    Arghh...Idiot!...sorry for the rant folks.

We've all been young and dumb, shit I still am. But unfortunately its life and death when it comes to fire arms.
