I had a set like the first one you posted. My main problem was with the light distribution pattern. It had hot spots (bright spots) and dim areas, it was not an even distribution. Not dangerous IMO, but enough that I got rid of them. The other areas that I've heard talked about is leaking, and the front lens will haze over earlier than stock.

FYI, I tried to BHLM my first set of OEMs. Didn't work out well, they leaked, when I opened them back up to try and reseal, had more problems. Decided to just buy an aftermarket set, found the light pattern, replaced with a set of the TRD (smoked) OEMs on eBay. Now I have a set of the FX-R retros sitting waiting to get installed.

So.... you had a problem with it leaking when you opened the first ones. Now you're going to open another set to do retros just to have then leak

 

Noted. I will definitely do more research. Good thing I don't buy on impulse

I BHLM'd my original OEMs, had leaks, opened those back up, still problems. Have not opened a set since.

 

But you said you have projectors for retro! So you have to open it to install them.
