Heated Mirrors?

Hey all,

I just discovered my truck doesn't have heated mirrors with the first snow here in Colorado yesterday. I can't help but think it funny that Toyota would put in something as extravagant as a backup camera but no heated mirrors in a fully loaded truck.

Anyways, I saw the old thread about the Burco heating element mod, a couple years ago. Are there any other options at this point?

Muth is one of the ones that a lot of people use. You can add a turn signal element as well.

As I indicated in the above thread, I used Burco mirrors from a 2006 Sienna, they come with the heating element already stuck to the glass. The connector also lines up with the hole in the mirror backing.
It really is a useful mod, espically if you get cold weather and have a cap.

what are the part #'s you got from Burco for these heated mirrors?

I went to Burco Online Catalog and got these part #s...

Left: #4007H
Right: #5103H Convex

my question is are these part #'s the same 1's that you used? and are these heated mirrors able to fit the Tacoma's Side Mirrors without any trimming or modifications to the heated mirrors to allow them to fit?

 

These heated mirrors really should have been included on these trucks. I'm going to have to include them as well. Driving in the snow, frost, rain is aweful when you can't see a thing out of the mirrors. Not pleased with that

 

honestly my truck is in the mountains every weekend cause I do a lot of snowboarding...I have yet to see my side mirrors fog up or freeze up cause of snow...would just like to add this more for preventative measures...

 

Something much be wrong with my truck mirrors then because they tend to fog up a lot, especially in the cold mornings. Rain and snow do stay on them.

 

You must not "live" in the mountains, though...

Trust me, I live at 9500 feet in the CO mountains, and I could use heated mirrors from about 3 weeks ago until about June...

I can't see anything out of my mirrors for my 20 min drive to work...

I was very surprised it was not an option on a truck that seems to have everything else...

 

i'm in las vegas...but I travel to Utah and California all the time to snowboard...

granted I don't live in the mountains so my truck isn't in the snow element for more then a weekend at a time...I was just stating that I haven't had the problem of fogging or icing up on my side mirrors...

 

Hell, I live in central Ohio and need heated mirrors!

Every morning I need to wipe mine off to get the dew off - otherwise I'm 20miles down the road having merged onto 3 expressways before I can see out the mirrors!

 

I don't know the part #'s off hand, but they sound familiar.
I beleive I posted what they were in the above linked thread though, feel free to give it a read.
They needed no modifications, they are identical to what we have just have the heated element on the back.
I would recommend getting the Toyota switch as well, that way the whole install looks factory, plus it's nice to have the 15 minute timer.

agreed. The tundras come standard now & before that toyota use to have a cold weather pkg CK for like a hundred bucks.
None of my pre-tacomas had them either. I figured they'd have them by now, I got spoiled on that damn tundra...

Granted it seems petty if you are not in the region where this effects you but we have those tire pressure sensors and somedays merging on the highway is much more dangerous than my tire pressure

 

I park in my garage, so no fog or snow buildup issues in the morning.

 

I was considering doing this mod with the Sienna mirrors. Will the Sienna 06 mirrors fit a 2011 tacoma??

 

Those numbers seem familiar. I'll check when I'm out in a bit.
If you check the link posted above (in the 4th post) I list the part numbers, as well as the schematics are posted and instructions how to take the mirrors apart .

Some found it cheaper to stick on heaters to the original mirrors. I like the idea of having the original ones as spares incase something happens.

The Burco units fit my 2008 perfectly, I assume the 2011 are the same, but I'm not sure.

The mirrors work great, I've already used them and I was at the dealer the other day and they asked if they were an option since they looked factory, espicially with the built in timer and the factory lighted switch which dims with the dash lights.
