Had some questions about "breaking in" a pistol. I've read a decent amount of stuff online. Some say to field strip and re-clean, lube, and grease a factory Sig as the factory "oil" is really just a preservative, not a lubricant, some say to fire a couple hundred rounds through then clean as normal.

I'm leaning towards cleaning, oiling, and greasing it myself before I put rounds through it but wanted some more advice.

I basically do what Ryan does.

New guns gets a quick field strip and quick cleaning. Then to the range where no matter the gun it gets shot with my cheap plinking ammo to make sure it functions great. Then if it is a carry gun or defensive gun of any sort it gets 50 rounds or so of the defense ammo.

Then for cleaning after that...guns that I don't shoot often (my 44mag for example) ill do a good cleaning within a day or two. My carry gun or defensive gun I only clean PRIOR to going ot the range. Then it gets shot. I leave my CC and nightstand guns "dirty" since I know they work

I shot my glock 26 in a class this weekend. Fresh from factory with the copper grease still in it. No fte ftf
Not saying this is the correct way. I actually wanted a fail so I can practice remedial action.

I generally just brake clean everything. Yes everything. Frame and all. The. Add a light drop of oil into areas that slides. Then Shoot the hell out of it...

X2 used a brand new factory Glock 19 fresh from the box in my CCW class last weekend. No malfunctions at all during the 350 round training, except for a FTF with low retention shooting that I think is because the slide hit my waist.

^^ CA CCW? I have UT/FL, and wouldn't mind CA but don't want to be a security guard. How are you getting it?

If you want a "fail" a tip I got from a RO long ago was to have someone else load up your mag and randomly put a snap cap in. Just cant be last round or first round really. Any ways youll shot normally till that snap cap and itll simulate a FTF at least. Decent way to practice

the CCW is only valid in the county you live in, correct?

nm, looks like it is good for the whole state it is issued in, and MAY carry over to other states.

    Thanks!

You're in the middle of getting your CCW, right? Any tips/recommendations? I live in Ventura County and heard it is easier to get than LA County, but that isn't saying much.

UT and FL as "non-resident" are easy to get and permit you in most states.

Now that Peruta was thrown back into the 9th circuit court of appeals for an en banc session, it will be almost impossible again.

I am not going through LA county, I am going through my local PD, which is very small and only processes 4 a year, so the Chief of Police will review my app and get back to me within a week.

Every county is different, every city is different, so I dont really have any general recommendations.

Gonna do a mini review on the safari land ALS holster since Rmodel65 recommended it.

I've had it for several weeks now and after many hikes and hundreds of times drawing it I'm very comfortable with it.
I carry it at the 3 O'clock position, with a forward cant (Middle hole), the draw is very smooth and natural, and there is a positive click when the weapon is reholstered.

It is also easy to draw while seated in a vehicle.

The retention system is very simple yet effective, I've had several people attempt to grab the weapon and none were successful at defeating the retention system before I could deal with them.
