Do you disconnect and loop around arm, or just twist around arm? Second method is referred to as a "hasty sling". I thought sling usage was simple also....there is science involved...I think.

I rely on a bench or some kind of rest far too much. Never had any formal training, but looking to gain skills on prone, sitting, kneeling and standing. I've become quite interested since starting research...has given me something new to learn. Shooting groups off of bags can get tedious at times.

Edit, if you notice in your picture, the sling is actually looped around his arm above his bicep and his supporting arm is rested on the front/side of his knee, not on top. Textbook form. Cool pic.

 

We learned how to shoot with a loop sling at rifle school in the USMC. There are a few different versions. A great tool yet forgotten skill to teach young shooters.

 

I learned the sling trick at an early age. Still use it today.

Nice I love mine! If you need 4 hole turrets in the future I can sell ya a couple. Ive since moved to a Dillon 550b for some of my calibers so have an extra couple sets (I have like 15 turrets Oo)

Toughest part would be getting proper depth for the magazine, and getting everything lined up to smoothly push in.

 

Around here it would be really nice to find 9mm, 38, or .223 at Walmart. Everything has been out for weeks.

We use this method in our department sometimes I like to wrap the extra length around my forearm. Hard to describe but works nicely when shooting prone unsupported

 

True this but, solid rifle and shooting skills can be acquired and learned through ones own discipline, like you have.
I would of rather been on a Sub or in an MOS field that I actually could not of accomplished on my own. If anything just for the experience points.
