    Yeah no kidding! I thought about it with 33's to get more power back. My truck is my DD and i sometimes drive the highway at 70-75 mph so if you were me would you regear? And if you did would you go with 4.56's or 4.88's? :D

    If you have the cash and that's what you want, go for it! Will bring the power back. I would go 4.88, personally but with a lot of highway miles maybe 4.56?

    Well im not on the highway alot what do you think my rpm's would be like with 4.88's at 75mph compared to 4.56? Sorry for these questions you just seem like the guy to ask! :eek:

    This site has a pretty good tire size calculator which will show gear ratios. I typed in 285/75/16 for both fields and compared gear ratios. Look at your gear ratio stock compared to 4.56 and 4.88 to see the rpm difference at 65 mph. I don't know your gear ratio or I'd do it for ya :thumbsup:

    Doesn't manual and automatic transmissions change what gear ratio you go with?

    I think 4.56 was the gear ratio to go with to feel "stock" again after bumpers and tires for a manual. I might be wrong but i swear i remember Monte saying that.

    2734 @ 4.11, 3033 @ 4.56, 3246 @ 4.88. This is rpms @ 65mph. The chart shows 4.56 at the high end of stock tire size power range, 4.88 into increased power.

    Here are some questions to ask yourself when considering which ratio is best.

    Whats the biggest tire you ever plan run?

    Will you be adding armor? Aftermarket bumpers, sliders, skids, winch?

    Do you live and drive where it is mainly flat land or are the mountains and grades where you spend your time.

    Regearing is a huge investments, you only want to do it once. haha

    FWIW, regearing my pig with all of its armor weight and 33s was the very best mod I have done. And I've done a lot of mods. IMO, 4.88s were a pretty good complement to the extra weight and larger tires.

    It is true that the trans ratios in the manual compared to the auto are different but they are not that different.

    It just occurred to me that there is another important reason to regear and that is to be able to go slower offroad. A lot less chance of burning up your clutch when going over obstacles. And for the auto guys, no more having to ride your brakes in the down hill sections.

    That is exactly why I wanna regear and will go 4.88s more than likely when I do. My truck is less and less of a daily driver aside from a few miles around town. We take the wife's highlander everywhere. I want the better crawl ratio and can sacrifice freeway flyin! I'm a manual trans.

    Yep if your tryin to suck water through it then it might not work if there is a hole/bad fitting. Basically like having a cracked straw in a soda, doesn't work that good.

    Yeah this is all true and i plan to run 33's and will add front palte bumper and winch and maybe some sliders and rear bumper down the road all while keeping it my DD so do you think 4.56's or 4.88's if i were to regear im leaning more towards 4.56's?

    With all of that additional weight, I'd go with 4.88s. If you think you might ever want to go bigger than 33s, then 5.29s is a better choice.

    Being a manual and wanting bumpers, skids, sliders and a RTT with 33s as a DD (work and school within 10 miles) would 4.56s be good enough or 4.88s?

    I disagree. He is a manual. 4.56 will be totally fine. If he was an auto, 4.88s for sure.

    Water floweth forth from the pump. Pulled it vertically through 50ft of hose, no problem. Didn't even have to lift bucket or anything
