Id say I have to agree with what the article has to offer. I wouldn't buy a 2nd gen, maybe many years ago when they were a fresh design.

Who cares, the 3rd gen will be here soon and we shall see how much better of a truck it really is.

A big reason I bought now instead of waiting was the design lol. I hate the front end of the 2016...and I preferred to stick with an engine that has been proven reliable, even if its a bit outdated.

Thats understandable, everyone has their preferences. I'm just ready to see what the new design has to offer (so I can watch video reviews and envy the power and comfort, but still keep my 19 year old truck)

Everything comes in phases. The 3rd gen front end is awful to me. Maybe when they do its facelift and tweak it, I may like it more and decide to upgrade, especially if the engine and everything proves to be just as bulletproof. Otherwise this truck is all I need as it is.

    you're wrong.

lol to each his own. Love the current look and have since it came out (especially the 2012 refresh), so I think I wouldn't have liked any front end remodel really. I do like that the cab and bed are almost the same though.

You read it. another click towards my retirement.

my next story is why electric cars suck....oil field jobs... and how buying one instead of an AR15 makes you unpatriotic. I will further it with Right wing comments from Republicans, the party that says guns are better than people, according to God.

"With a punchy powertrain, the Toyota Tacoma excels for hauling, towing, and off-road use."

That's essentially what I bought a truck for. Upgraded tires it now tops on a dime and the TRD Sport suspension for a fairly tight ride. With my heated TRD seats I don't find it a painstaking chore to drive at all. Reviews of these trucks are hilarious. It seems they're always being compared to full size trucks with big lounge seats and soft smooth suspensions, or high-end touring sedans that are effortless and luxurious rides.

If you are a soft middle aged individual who doesn't need a truck, often complains of lower back pain and finds it exhausting to drive a rough and tumble vehicle on the road for 30+ mins, then yes... you would be stupid to buy a tacoma.

"Options can easily drive up the price well into full-sized truck territory"

...that's simple economics...getting what you pay for. Those articles are written by journalists that compare what else can be had for the same money.

F-150/Ram/Silverado/Tundra/Titan.... all bigger/more comfortable/more power/better optioned/better mpg than say a Tacoma TRD PRO.... all have sticker prices that are $38k

I still wish that the roof was lower and the floor higher. As for handling, It's a shitload better than my old Ranger. I rather like the ride.

    Clearly you've never driven a 1984 W150 with a 7 1/2' plow on the front....

that low roof is only thing I can see that is a setback for the Tacoma, other than that it is the best automobile on earth.

I think "most" of us here bought the Tacoma for a specific set of reasons. I find mine to be exactly what "I" want. It might not be for everyone so there are plenty of other options out there. IMO it is one of the most capable trucks in it's class for taking off road, aftermarket supply's are endless, and it is a proven powerplant that (so far) I've had no issues with. Is there room for improvement? Of course there is. I don't disagree with some of the points brought up in the article but "IMO" it is comfortable, reliable, and capable of doing all the things that "I" bought it for. I didn't buy my truck for mileage. I bought it to use off road and it has done exceptionally well at doing exactly that. I plan on keeping this truck for the foreseeable future. It will be paid for in 1.5 years and I've just dropped over $4k in a Pelfreybilt Bumper, Sliders, Rigid Lights, Frontrunner Vehicle Outfitters roof rack, and Icon suspension. Next on the list is a mid mount rack with a RTT. Not many other vehicles out there offer that amount of customization.

With that... I'm happy. I wouldn't place too much stock in some article since most of us didn't buy it for the reasons listed. JMO.

Nah, they gave it a bad review.
Consumer Reports has a case of limp dick for Tacoma's.

The problem w/CR is that they review everything like it's a car.
Penalizing a truck for a rough/stiff ride and high step up is like criticizing a boat because you'll get wet if you fall off.

That is NOT an 84 Dodge D150...that is probably a 64 D100 Sweptline, in good shape. From this view, the cab looks identical to my 68 D100 Utiline, stepside, short bed. A darn fine truck.

And in spite of the terrible Consumer Reports review, they show it to be much higher than average in reliability and resale value. It is just not the ideal vehicle for commuting, grocery getting and carpool in the New York metro area.

I've had mine for about a year now I love it. Really don't get the poor handling though, I find it has good handling. Oh well.

No, but THIS is an '84 W150 :D
    [IMG]

That's a '69 D100 Sweptline, but close enough. From the side they all look identical anyway, haha!
