Well I picked up my truck from the dealer and have been driving it for about a week with no ABS breaking issues :) and the brakes seem to be working much better in general. The dealer had my truck for the good part of a week and found the alignment was off on the right front and "straightened" up the rear. They also checked all of the sensors, programming, etc. and most interesting flew two engineers out from Toyota to work on this issue. Because of that I would guess this may be a know issue that Toyota is trying to correct.

I dont buy alignment being the root cause. What would be the failure mechanism that would cause ABS to think it's detecting wheel slip?

I agree. Alignment shouldn't have anything to do with the abs.

I would imagine they had it that long they flashed the computer and rebooted.

Bad alignment can cause a traction control engagement that pulses the brake pedal exactly the same as an ABS engagement

I see what your saying, but he's talking about his brakes not working for a bit before the abs kicks in. That's pretty extreme.

Yeah that was more of a statement with regard to your comment on the alignment issue

clear as mud on my part

The fact that it's not repeatable is the concerning part. You dont know whether the issue was truley fixed.

I've had traction control kick in due to alignment on my other cars, but I could replicate it everytime I drove. The OP's issue is something else.

Was there anything else they did to the brake system? How much did that set you back? I'm having the exact same symptoms and would prefer to do it my own to save money.

Is your abs kicking in randomly as you brake on dry roads?

I now have a sport, but when I had an off road I never experienced the abs issue like I do in the sport. The off road has a slightly different braking system that is set up for the atrac.

I have had this same thing happen 2 times now. Foot on gas about 35mpg same kinda cloverleaf off ramp and the abs kicks in by its self.

Yaw control and/or steering angle sensors need re-calibrating? Do you park with your wheels turned or start the truck and abrublty put in gear potentially sending an incorrect signal tare reading?

Had an issue with an xterra in which the yaw control or steering angle sensor would not calibrate correctly causing the traction control to be disabled and light on, dealer reset the system they said, worked for a week. Found out the sensor and system calibrated during certain conditions in which if I drove extremely slow in an absolute straight line for 100 feet or something it reset..(found procedure on some xterra forum, add another step or two maybe...been years)..anyway...tried it and it worked, traction control disabled light went off and was able to engage again...fwiw ideas.

*something about the stored signal position and new signal position readings not solving properly, ...it was vdc slip light reset

Got my issue fixed. Took it to Toyota and they re-calibrated the Yaw control sensor(As stated above). They told me it needs to be done after lifting the truck.
