Someone will always get the short end of the stick because people can't look beyond their own personal agenda.

This is demonstrative of what happens with discrimination against a minority. This exchange between Jamie and myself has had zero comment or recognition by anyone else on this thread, a time frame of over 7 hours, during which 84 posts have managed to ignore it. How is an atheist to defend against this blatant boastful discrimination without the backing and outrage of the very people discussing the issue of discrimination?

This was so unbelievable to me, I had to research the South Carolina Constitution to see if it was actually true. Yes, the State that had the "Rebel Flag on the Capital building" issue indeed has that in the Constitution. It is Article VI Section 2. !!!!

I certainly won't hold my breath waiting for the Supreme Court of these United States "Under God" to declare the South Carolina Constitution to be unconstitutional.

Yes, the rumor is true. I am an Atheist, and when the Pledge of allegiance was changed in the year of your Lord 1954, I visibly clamped my lips shut during the phrase "under God" during the Celebratory Pledge in front of my Grade School where the Stars And Stipes proudly waved in the breeze.

This is the first time in many many years that I have told of that discriminatory event in my life. It used to hurt, but I always knew I couldn't fight City Hall. I am now at a time in my life that I know I cannot be further hurt by going public with it now as I was in my youth, so there it is. I do well know, however, that many of you who are reading this will not do the same as I in going public, and I no longer consider you to be hipocrites, but merely defending yourselves against the mob.

I wonder now, will this thread be locked, and perhaps I will join the ranks of the Banned ?

    Have a good night.

I know that you are attempting sarcasm here, but this is what I mean. This will never get any better with this type of thinking and attitude.

We just can;t have nice things. :(

Agreed. Anyone that 'needs' a religion to tell them right from wrong is someone I don't want to be around.

Wow. Blindfold much. The bible also condoned the ownership of slaves. Do you abide by that also.

To me that statement is just as ignorant as someone who believes the Quran is correct and believes Sharia Law is the only true way of life.

It has been here all along and far worse than it is now because it used to be acceptable. I grew up in the south during the "whites only" era and in you wildest dreams you would never want to be in that place. The right hates the "potus" and fights every thing he says and tries to enact laws to prove their hatred. That is where the noise is coming from. How would you feel if your daughter came home from school crying being all most daily called a "dirty savage" because she was native?

That I haven't experienced but have had stepdaughter come home crying from being bullied because she is smart.
How would you like for your son or daughter be in a rr with a transgender?

My point is simply that we as a society make that distinction all the time...genetics or not.

I don't think the genetics matter and this is why.

All our laws are designed to keep people from doing what comes to them naturally

We'd have no civilization otherwise. It is a known fact that a man with XX/YY chromosome is naturally predisposed to violence. But if he beats his wife he should still go to jail...natural or not. We tell people all day long 'you can't do what you want'. Everyone who is a parent will understand that.

I feel in the future when the young people of now grow up and look back on all of this, they will feel the same way most of us do when you think back on the times of black people having no rights. They will think it was ridiculous that people were so prejuduced and unaccepting.

Of course you will always have those people that hate. That pass down the teachings of their bigotry and intolerance. Which is unfortunate, because a child doesn't hate anyone without the teachings of the corrupted adult.

    Definition of bigot:

Bigotry is a state of mind where a person obstinately, irrationally, unfairly or intolerantly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. Some examples include personal beliefs, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other group characteristics.

Yes. My original post stated we ALL discriminate..and it's not necessarily a bad thing.

When we lock up a murderer or a child molester we are discriminating...judging them... saying they are wrong...and taking away their rights. We couldn't exist as a civilization without discrimination.

My point simply is this: discrimination isn't necessarily a bad thing...and I think discrimination for moral issues is necessary for our society.

Racial discrimination is wrong because race has no moral qualities and that is why I feel it is an invalid comparison to homosexuality.

Or as they say...Apples and Oranges.

Well we agree on one thing , that it is discrimination , in this case being validated as freedom of religion , basically what I said in my first post

    Glad we agree
