My wife and I are struggling from week to week and I'm thinking about selling my truck. My payment isn't but $220 a month but I figure that's an extra 200to use or put towards a credit card. I've got a 2008 tacoma double cab Trd offroad 4x4 with 83,000 miles on it and wS wondering what I might be able to ask for it. Nada has it average trade in $19,100 and clean retail for $23,200. Any help would be appreciated. I don't owe but like $9600 on it.

BK= bankruptcy? Thought about that. It's just all these credit cards and unsecured loans. I often said what would happen if we didn't pay the cc companies. Can they come take my house or truck

Sell the truck. Buy an old beater toyota corolla or honda for under $5,000 and no car payments.

Take that $200 a month and get into some Financial help/classes.

Get rid of anything that's not necessary.... Get rid of the cell phones, get rid of the streaming services, get rid of the ipads, get rid of anything that doesn't fall under these 4 topics:
    1) Roof over your head
    2) Food
    3) Clothing
    4) transportation

Take some Overtime, work the weekends, or even get a 2nd job.

You gotta work thru this and control it. You'll be FOREVER in massive debt unless you learn how to control your spending and get your debt under control.

Excellent advice. My ex wife left me in financial ruin 10 years ago. Credit card bills she was supposed to help pay she didn't, car loan she wouldn't pay, ect ect. We had no kids, so there was no reason to even fight with her legally about it because she had no cash to pay.

I said screw it. I sold my RZR, 4-wheeler, and play car(these were all paid for). Got rid of my cell phone and got a cheap trac phone. I paid my house payment, and utilities and left just enough cash for food and gas.

    Buckled down, paid everything off.

Now 10 years later. I remarried 6 years ago. We have NO credit card bills, no unsecured debt. The only debt we have is my truck which I owe less than 10k on, and our house which we owe less than 30K on it. Everything else we own. No instead of making payments, we save and pay cash for the things we want. We have a ton of toys. Boat, SXS, 2 ATVs and 2 Jet skis that we paid cash for over the last 6 years.

It is possible to dig your way out of debt. It takes time and dedication. And you have to learn a new way to live. Life isn't about keeping up with the neighbors or friends. You have to live within your means. Some people have more means than others. An example my mother in law is a Doctor. She makes a lot of money. But guess what? They spend money like its water. EVERYTHING they have is owned by the bank of a credit card. She makes over 200k a year, but I bet you right now if you asked her how much cash should could come up right now she couldn't produce a 1000 bucks. All her pay check does is pay the bills.

Selling your truck and concentrating on paying bills is a great start.

To answer your question, I did a quick auto trader search of 2008 DCSB 4x4s in my area and came up with an average of 21,095.00. I'd say you'd be able to get 20k out of it easy. Take 9500 to pay it off, take 2500 to buy a beater, and take the rest and pay off bills. You can always buy another truck later.

Thanks for all the responses. My manager at work is supposed to be leaving or that's what they have been saying since November. I feel like asking. When you leaving? I know it's not gonna be overnight but I just wish we could see some results soon

Don't file bankruptcy unless there is positively no other way. That financial peace class from dave ramsey I hear is a good class to attend.

The big question is why are you in debt to begin with. What is your vice?

Installed Cooper At/3's (265/70R16) and ProComp 7089 Rims. Tinted front windows. Did the Fog Light Anytime mod. Did the tailgate mod. Added running boards. Adding sound Deadening from RAAMaudio. Replacing stock speakers with Polk Audio DB6501's.
I've lived by this philosophy for years and have taught it to my kids....

"If you can't afford to pay off the credit card bill at the end of the month, you can't afford what you are buying with it".

Now they are teaching it to theirs.

I don't have an excuse why we are in debt like we are. I wish my parents would have taught me more about saving and don't buy unless you can afford it. I know it's common sense now, but my wife and I were young and dumb. Paying for it now. When one of us is in charge of the bills. The other kne don't know how much is in checking so we opt to use our credit card or we used to. Trying not to use them now but so on occasions when we don't have any money left from our payday. I may have to get a part time job and throw all that money towards the credit cards to pay them off. Do that for a couple of years I guess. My wife and everybody asks when we are gonna have our second child and I say we can't afford another one.

I bought my 07 4x4 sport with 84k miles from the dealer last July in superb condition. Dealer had it listed for 25k, also had an 08 off road with 95k miles, also in great condition, same price. Ended up talking them down to right around 21k and they threw on some brand new hankook dynapros.

If your truck is in really good condition try it at like 24k and see if you get any bites...you can always lower the price if you don't get any interest. Doesn't make sense to keep the truck if you are struggling financially. Sell it, get caught up, buy another when you can! Good luck

Good stuff ElderP!Figure something out to put you on the plus side.If you got to sacrifice the truck than do it to help you out.Yes its a Tacoma but its replaceable in the future unlike other things that have no value or hold none.
