    I have 4.56s and the 6-speed. I'm hoping that's enough gear for 37s. Crawl box is in my plan, but it'll be another year before I can make that happen

    The headers dont add a lot more power. If I had to guess I'd say somewhere in the 8-10 wtq range in the lower rpm. It def won't help a lot with 37s
    He won't be fine. Unless fine to him is slow as hell. Haha 4.88s, light weight 35s and all the "power" mods I can run and my truck is not as fast as stock. I can run 70 mph and still get 19 mpg but that's about the only good thing. There's no other way to put it then it's a turd.

    I could go 5.38 since I'm in a prerunner and don't have to worry about clamshell gear but sill I don't need a fast truck. Or even a quick truck. Fastest I run my truck is 65 so mpg doesn't suffer too badly. I don't mind slowing it down to 60 or even 55.

    You can put a first gen clamshell in your second gen, I did for 4.88 because at the time no one was making thick gear 4.88's for the 2nd gen like they do now.

    They make 5.38s for a 8.4? I know they make a 5.29s. I would go that direction. I know when I buy new tires next they will be a trail only set because there's no way I could stand to drive on the street with 37s and beadlocks. I also don't need a fast truck. I wouldn't have bought a 4 banger if I wanted that. But what I do want to do is go 0-60 in under 20 sec. Haha

    No thanks... I'm running a non-thick 4.88 ring gear up front and have had no problems. My rear end blew up first and a CV. Besides the thick doesn't make the ring gear stronger. And even if it did I'm sure the 8.0 is strong enough that it's not worth downgrading to the 7.5.

    On either one the fuse is not the ring gear. CV's are. The toyota solid axle is the same way. The birfields pop long before the guts in the pumpkin.

    Yep... I just broke my 6th cv and the front diff is still perfect.

    Wonder how many I'll break when I go to 37s? :eek:

    Gotcha. Yeah it's 5.29. The great itself is weaker then 4.88 but I wouldn't be too worried about it

    Let's not act like 2nd gen cv axles are just weak. There's a lot of unknowns and variables that can go into breaking an axle. I've somehow seemed to not break one. I don't think this is just a coincidental oddity

    I know of 3 guys now who have broke the side gear in the ADD on the 7.5" before a CV broke. 1 was on 33's, one on 35's and one on 37's.
