Here's the thing. You're free to believe in and worship whatever religion you choose. That goes for everybody. What you're not free to do is take away other people's freedoms because of your beliefs.

I have significant doubt that the people writing the bible had any clue about genetics in either case

Thats a pretty definitive statement. Care to elaborate on the facts of that statement.

What if you believe in God , but not necessarily God as described in the Bible ?

    And you are allowed to.

Would you agree to a law that made mandated every citizen be Christian and believe in Christian values? Or would you rather be free to live as you deem fit and run your private business as you deem fit?

    I bounce it offa stuff.
I wouldn't, but I'm a spiritual Buddhist who was raised Christian (southern baptist and united methodist), and thus have a trace of Old Testament left in me. My wife is a very devout post-Catholic (recovering Cathoholic, I call it), and I follow some of the Christian view points but my day-to-day interactions are driven mostly from a Buddhist influence. I don't think there is any right religion, and if there was it has been so bastardized by now that it's pointless to follow to a T anyway. As long as we practice loving our fellow man snd improving ourselves, we are on the right path.

I think everybody should be afforded the same freedom of beliefs which is already the case , I also believe there are existing laws governing discrimination

Discrimination in the name of religion is still dIscrimination , that's been my point from my first post

That's retarded. And you are being contradictive. You can't govern discrimination to that extent and still have freedom of religion.

Discrimination has always been a part of religion. To do what you want, you would afford the government power over the people's morals and values. It would allow the Government to rape the Constitution and do away with separation of Church and State. It would empower the Government to force religions to capitulate against what they believe is right; which is, by the way, discriminating against religions  so now we're back to square one.

It may sound like a great idea when the government is in alignment with your values, but what do you do when a leader doesn't share your ideas? You can't just take that power back from the government, because at this point you've probably already voted away our ability to bare arms... Again, freedom is never taken, only given away. In our case, voted away.

There already are laws that govern freedom of religion and freedom from discrimination based on religion , race , gender , sexual preference etc

Even though a leader doesn't abide by my ideals, or Christian ideals, doesn't mean I am not free to practice my religion however the hell I want. Just because someone mandates insurance covers infanticide doesn't mean I have to run about slaying babies. It also means that I can't impede on another practicing his religion though. So if we leave each other alone about this shit, it all works out.

They don't apply to the offering of services. As mentioned before and conveniently ignored, private businesses have always had the right to refuse services for any reason. This law is redundant and offers no more freedom to discriminate than before. Im not sure why it was passed...

What happened to the good old days (pre televangelist, post witch burning) when religious people and non religious people would mind their own business and treat people all the same, then go home satified that they were the right a true saved people in private.

I don't begrudge people their religion, but I shouldn't have to be made to deal with it either. If one is so secure in their belief, then making a cake or not shouldn't be enough to shake it.

Then I don't know what you want...

As the law stands, a private business can legally refuse business to anyone they want except based off of race.
