So despite having browsed this subject a bit and being more than aware of the issue. I still wind up being surprised. My truck is getting a state inspection today (overdue as of this morning) and apparently despite my free inspection not being able to be inspected until may 4, for state inspection, they are inspecting it nonetheless. If it needs a new frame, then I will fail to pass inspection. Sure I can keep the truck, since a corolla is not going to work at all for a small time contractor, but even if i sign the waiver, i will be driving illegally because I have no state inspection. But they just won't give me anything other than a corolla. I even suggest I will pay extra for upgrade (to enterprise) for a truck, but somehow, no enterprise anywhere has any trucks. Which we all know is not true. I guess I will hold off becoming belligerent in the dealership until i have it confirmed that I need a new frame. I will have to go reread the recall notice, but I don't remember the mention of the state inspection issue.

So as expected, I need a new frame. Crikey! Oh well. Dealership was decent about it all things considered, although it's not like they are eating any of these costs anywhere. They did offer me a rav4 after some delay which I took before realizing I cannot function professionally without my truck and will get it back tomorrow. Estimates are 144 days for delivery of my frame. Yikes.

Billy's all around. 1.75 up front. Fisher HT 6'8" Steel blade. Custom bed rack. Mt Shasta.
I live in Maine and got my frame replace this past summer. My truck is a 2005 and it had 75k on it at the time. The dealership said it would take about 4 weeks, it took 8. I had a rental car the entire time, no issues.

I just got my truck back yesterday from the frame replacement. Truck drives a little better but considering driving a RAV4 for a week it's a huge difference. Hopefully we never run into this problem again.

I dropped my truck off for frame inspection On December 2, 2014 I am now in Month 5 of waiting ! Service department has no idea when frames are coming! The only thing they said was I can contact Toyota if I want! This is getting old I wish they would just by it back like they did with my 1999 Tacoma at this point. Was not ready for my truck to be held hostage for 5+ months. Toyota could have thought this one out better! How do they justify taking thousands of trucks from good customers and put us in cars when we bought trucks for a reason.

How long are the wait times for other Tacoma owners out there?

Four months and waiting. In a Camry LE which is nice but I sure miss my truck. Go by once a week to start it up and check on things. Dealership told me regional Toyota guy said average is 4-6 months, I should be next on the list of frames coming in. My 05 has 95k miles so if they do a good job on my frame replacement it will be like almost having a new truck.

I just had mine done by the Toyota dealer in Lancaster, MA. Have to say they were very professional about it in general. My frame was bad enough to do, but not so bad they held onto the truck. Took about 5 months for the new frame to come in, then they took care of it and any other recalls in about a week. Came out with a page and a quarter of new parts under truck.

Waited almost 5mnths for frame to finally come in. They gave me a corolla and said it would be about 5 days. Will let ya know how it works out.
Was looking at list of parts - lower control arms, brake lines, rear springs bunch of other stuff
I tried to have the shocks done to, they said would let me know

Does anyone have pictures of a frame they would only rust proof? my 2006 (which I have ruined with 100k miles in the last 2 years) appears to have alot of surface rust and Im thinking they will only rust proof it. I would prefer a new frame I think, I have this feeling it will get coated and then 6 months I notice a hole starting.

My frame appeared to be only surface rust, too. The technician that checked mine actually used some sort of tool (a hammer I presume) to check for weakened areas. I know this because when the truck was taken into the service bay, the tech left the key in the "accessory" position, which allowed my dashcam to remain on. When I watched the video, I could see through the windshield as the truck was raised on the lift and I could hear the technician pounding on various parts of the frame for several minutes.

My truck did not have holes near the cats as many have mentioned (although you can tell there is rust inside this part of the frame.) Mine was rusted at the "wings" immediately behind the front wheels where the body mounts are. These areas did not have holes initially but were weak enough to give when struck with the tool. Left Wing.jpg As a side note, my truck was originally rustproofed when delivered.

I've had this truck 9 years and it has never been in a wreck or seen a body shop. Last Saturday I was rear ended by a nice old lady in a rental car. Now I'll be getting a new bumper and hitch, too. If I keep this up, I'll have a completely new truck by years' end.

So I got a call from the local Toyota dealer and my frame has come in. They said they put 3 tech on each frame job and it will take 2 days to finish. I will report more next week when I pick it up.

Well add another rotted frame to the list fellas!!! Same deal, have to drop off my truck this Saturday and they will order the frame and new leafs. Have a 2005 6 speed manual with 105k and dealer ship said to let them know if I like anything else replaced and they basically do it for cost of parts only.

Was wondering if anyone else considered replacing their Engine seals or other worn components that would normally cost more to tear down then to replace???

Any tech savvy Grease Monkey's input would be appreciated!!!

Hey, Rob, I'm in Maryland, too. Which dealership are you using? Sounds like they're looking out for you.
