Thanx for the thoughts! You know I thought bout that for a minute as a solution to the fact that my cab rack with accessories (the peli box being the tallest) is about 5" higher than the top of my Thule bars. For my needs I need the Thule bars to be at least a couple inches higher than the cab rack with accessories. But I bolted the Thule feet to the cap by drilling holes through the cap, those hole will not line up with the Prinsu rack. Also I like everything to live in coordination with each other on the truck. Im a grab and go kinda guy, the thought of bolting the bars down to a Prinsu cap rack to go on a quick paddle board trip 10 mins away then get home and break it all down is a turn off. And if I keep the bars on top of the cap rack for good it would end up being an expensive spacer lift for the Thule bars that would end up defeating the great space the Prinsu cap rack offers. With a multipurpose mindset I have come up with the idea of building a custom safari basket. It will be a basic basket, but to the specs I want. It will be 4'x5' made from 1.5" Aluminum square tube, I plan on using the front and rear top bars of the basket as the new mounting bars for surfboards, SUPs, kayaks, etc. by putting surf pads on the cross members of the basket. I priced out material the other day, will purchase soon and pre cut the entire basket assembly myself. I talked to a guy a work that is down to Tig weld it for me. This safari basket will be simple and epic! I also plan on mounting an ARB awning on it that I got a few months back. This basket will always live on my truck and will be great to carry anything additionally needed on a trip and have surf mounts and awning... Win :D

Here's a few mach ups I've been working on. A lot of times I work off ideas in my head not truly knowing exactly how it will come out until I'm finished. Well decided that it wouldn't take much effort to make full size scale models this time to know what my ideas will look like on the truck incase I wanted to make any changes now would be the time.

First was just a basic sceptor water can holder. Most of the ones I've come across cover the spout in a locking fashion. I wanted the caps to be accessible and the cans to have a security brace over the handles. This is what I came up with, just a basic carrier I will send the dimensions over to Pelfrey to have them fab it up

I also made a full size wooden model of the safari rack that I've been thinking about for a while now. Another basic idea, but want to make it out of aluminum so there's no weight on the cap. Pretty pleased with it, I will be able to throw anything inside the basket, strap down surfboards and kayaks, and mount my ARB awning on it. I will be eventually adding aux lighting to the basket as well.

I imagine setting up that 6' awning is a bit difficult on your own, no?

It was kind of windy when I tested it, but I was thinking three hands would be nice when I set up my 4' awning.

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Just a suggestion on where you are planning to mount that twin jerry can mount...move it up higher! Ckeene has very similar set up on his and he drags it everywhere! There is probably more damage on the end of the jerry can mounts than his sliders. This was a concern I took from him when mounting mine.

The mounts look good! Rack looks great. A little more paint in the wood one and you might just run that!!!

Truth! Good thing mine are 3/16" steel. I'm waiting to shear a mounting bolt or two off one day.

Could they be turned sideways for any clearance gain?

Nope, double can is just as thick width wise. They just need to be raised or relocated.

No pics never happened. Thanx Dude!

Unfortunately I got the awning in the beginning of winter and have not mounted it yet. Found a great deal and jumped on it. But ive seen a few videos of someone setting up the 6' awning solo, so at least I know its possible.

Interesting.. yea I can foresee that being a problem

Just call Adam, hes easy goin

    May go single can :spy:

    Thanx for the info Dudes!

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Really just moving it up a few inches should make it clear of the bottom of the tire. Departure angle is important. Get a straight edge and run it from the bottom of the bumper to the bottom of the tire and try and keep your jerry cans inside of the little triangle you just formed if possible...

This beach buggy does not discriminate and turns out she has a soft spot for rocks.
