    Hey guys,

My antenna broke off and the bolt is totally rusted in the base and I cant remove it with a screw extractor. Are there any tutorials on how to replace it? Thanks.

Any chance you've found a solution? My antenna broke off and I'd like to fix it myself.

not sure if I understand the issue but yes new antenna is the fix if the bolt broke off inside it. you could try drilling it out but the odds of drilling it out and using an easy out to remove it without stripping or messing up the threads beyond reusing it are very low. even if you get it out, odds are it wont tighten very well anymore.

if getting the fender antenna mount out is the problem then removing the fender gets you access to the back side to allow you to get a grip on things to get it off

Here's a southern engineered fix: drill all the way through the broken bolt. AutoZone rents out thread repair kits. Re-thread to the size you need. Radio works!!

See this is the kind of response I needed! Thank you Tacogal!

I'm coming up on the 2 year anniversary of my antenna breaking off... I can only get 1 local station and it only works in some parts of town. I've had a new antenna waiting to get installed for over a year but just couldn't get the darn broken piece out! This sounds like a great plan, I'll be doing it this weekend for sure. I'll post on Monday and let you know how it worked!

This is a very common second gen problem. Every 2nd Gen that ever need a fender replacement has needed a new antenna base because they always seize up

I have a Crutchfield Master Sheet that describes how to remove and replace the antenna. It's not rocket science, but if you think it would be helpful, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

Use a center punch to make an indention as close to the center of the broken antenna stub as possible. Then, drill a small hole deep enough to allow the bolt/screw extractor to get some bite, then screw it out. When mine got broken off this summer, I couldn't find my screw extractor, so after drilling the hole I forced a small square drive bit into the hole. The whole thing took about 5 minutes.
