Oh I'm sure I'll have to junk them at some point around 80,000-100,000 miles. That will probably be 6 or 7+ years from now though. By then it will be paid off and maybe it will get something higher end.

Didn't know that about those Fox shocks. Thanks for the info.

this is my sentiment put much more eloquently.

Though... it would of been REALLY easy for bilstein to add in a shrader valve to the gas only chamber of the 5100's and a user removable end cap and boom.... now you have a fully rebuildable 5100.

This has been done I believe. Toytec has rebuildable 5100's in a true coil over setup if I remember correctly. I would expect at some point Toytec may do the same with the 6112.

Wow this turned to shit  one question I have for you mr monkey face... You always say "we haven't driven a baja/pro so we can't say anything about it" Have you ever driven a tacoma on real pro-grade coilovers and extensively "off road tested" them on your dirt roads? If not then one could say you can't argue your case either, goes both ways :D

The best question is has anyone drove every setup, at every lift height, with every available option such as hydraulic bump stops, on every single weight of truck, on every single road condition, on every single offroad condition, with every single tire weight, with every single shock/strut/coil over on the market?

Nope.... Thought so. Different strokes for different folks. Has anyone bothered answering all of OP questions before the:locked:

It would had been pretty easy I agree, but for sake of it costing more money for the end user that is not a "profit building" decision.

They probably will I agree. They have indeeddone nthis to the 5100's Toytec exclusive right there.

    Lol. You're not wrong! :D

As far as I'm aware they are indeed rebuild able.

Of course I cannot confirm this.

Interesting info from everyone, it's obvious there are as many opinions out there, as there are shock/suspension kits to choose from. And I think that is a good thing, keeps everyone happy that way! If anyone has a question about the Pro kit, I'd be happy to answer what I can, but that is all I have experience with, so I won't venture beyond what I have worked with. They're just trucks anyway....not family members lol

Curious, the BOSS system from Toytec is no longer listed as rebuildable. Maybe they stopped doing it. Anyways my point was that the 5100 was rebuildable at one point as was pointed out above. Obviously someone didn't know everything they thought about shocks :p. nd4spdbh you need to find your center. You're getting way too upset over Icon stage 1 versus the 6112. Different strokes for different folks and I think it's far to early to pass any judgement on the 6112... Do you own shares in Icon or something :D.

IF Toytec ever releases a true coilover version of the 6112 I will swap to it immediately. It's hard to beat the possible price point of $900 for a 2.5" plus true coil over at under $1000 that would match up okay with my rear 5100's.

the 5100's have always been "rebuildable" if you sent them back to the manufacture.

When i say rebuildable im saying something you can do in your garage like a proper shock. (something with a gas chamber with a shrader valve / fill port, like the countless dritbike / streetbike forks and shocks i have rebuilt). From the picture of the BOSS system it doesnt look like there is a gas fill port on the bottom of the shock chamber but that could be where the picture was taken.

Lol, proper shock, okay buddy. Not everyone needs the sort of shocks and rig you are running. Icons at $1500 just don't have value to me. I've been wherever I need to go on just 5100's. When I upgrade it'll be because my 5100's have died on me. Which hasn't happened in 2 years. I personally will avoid Icon like I said. I've had friend up here with meh experiences with them and the cost is crazy for the nicer kits. I'll step up to a 2.5" shock and at that point they price themselves out of the market for guys like me. Guys who don't need to fly down terrain.

The 6112, if Toytec makes them in a true coilover, will fit all of my needs for an upgrade at moderate cost. It's a personal preference that you don't have to feel the need to control.

I looked at Foxes when I bought my billy's just for the name more than anything. If I had Foxes I'd have to send them anyway anywho because I'm not going to invest in rebuilding a shock personally, I simply don't have that skill and don't need it, and I'm not going to trust a bunch of dirt bike guys around here to do it either because they work slow as hell. When a 5100 breaks, and mines haven't, my local retail always takes them back on warranty and hands over a new shock. That seems a lot quicker than a rebuild :notsure:.

FYI I dont run icons i dont need them for what i do... I run 5100's in the front and OME N182's in the rear. I just dont see the point of something so expensive thats essentially a glorified 5100. to be a true coilover it needs to have a top cap and heim joint so the shock doesnt bind... not a strut assembly like even the BOSS kit is. Its just for me... if i were to spend 1500ish on suspension, it better be rebuild able by me.

BTW what local retailer did you buy your 5100's at?

A little custom place called Prime Auto Accessories. They are locally owned and fairly easy to work with, but a little expensive sometimes. The owner runs a Jeep and used to have a Tacoma so he's been a pretty good source of information on top of this site.

For me 6112's won't cost $1500. Because I already have the 5100's in the rear, if they are still in good shape, I'll just do the 6112 up front and gain a little down travel, adjustablity, and ride smoothness.

Sounds like a solid plan. Do you have aftermarket UCA's? As it stands the 5100's already extend further than stock UCA's will allow.
