It's in the mail, should be here today or tomorrow. It'll be a while before I get it done. I need it to warm up a bit and I'll have to rotate my spare around and do one wheel at a time.

I'm seriously considering getting the truck retuned also. When looking at exhausts systems that have little to no gain, the same money could be used to really wake the truck up, improve shift strategies and make it more fun to drive. My biggest sticking point is the warranty... I've been talking with Tasca down in RI. They have a mod shop where they would do it in house so I'm hoping I can get something from them stating that the warranty would remain in tact.

Don't knock it Billy, Glenn Danzig has done a lot of great stuff over time...my 2nd tattoo was inspired by the band, I'm thinking of another based on that video

Mike I agree, most people spend money on intakes and exhaust that really provide no performance benefit. A re-tune is the best way to improve performance and usually the most cost effective. Manufacturers generally leave a decent amount of performance gain to be had because the factory tune is generic do it can be used in all variety of conditions. You can gain a lot by optimizing for your specific climate/conditions. The factory intake and exhaust also generally flow more than enough for 90% of people and the power levels their trucks will be producing

    Mike,

I have looked at the same for my truck - gain a huge HP increase with the turbos. Everywhere I have looked said the warranty goes out the window though. Trying to figure out if tune the truck and I need it to go in for warranty work later, if I reflash the stock tune, would they be able to see that I messed with the computer?

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Already got my weekly "I need an engine for my Jeep" phone call. Last week I sold a eng and transmission to the same shop for 2 different customers.

Yeah, but I don't know how much he had to do with the mod shop. I know he worked at the dealership but they have a Mod Shop that seems to run as it's own entity. It sounds like this guy Dennis pretty much does all the tuning and is fairly well respected from what I can find. I can go to other shops and get a tuner sent to me already loaded and ready to go, but I'm hoping with a local Ford shop, I can get confidence that my warranty will stay. If they can't get me something in writing about that, there's no way I'm going to pursue it. My pockets aren't deep enough for a new engine and/or transmission because someone missed a line in the program and advanced my timing a hair too much.
Start? I never ended :D I play year round and there is usually a league somewhere if you want to watch it on TV. Honestly though, I don't really watch any professional sports. I prefer to play. My favorite pro sport to watch would have to be hockey.
Amen, thankfully I never got bit by the tattoo bug!

Not sure about toyota or Ford. I know GM ecus have a counter for the about of times the ecu had been flashed. Iirc though it want something that was regularly checked or available unless someone really went digging into the ecu. It is pretty common for people with a GM to tune with hptuners and flash back to stock for warranty work. Mike if you're willing to put in the research I think hp tuners also offers options for Ford. You can download canned tunes or make your own. It's what I had for my track car and it's awesome. There is a learning curve, especially with ask the vvti and crap going on. But is pretty cool to be able to tailer tq and hp delivery to your needs.

It does require done maintenance though. Depending on how aggressive the tune is you might have to re tune with the seasons since air density, ambient temp, humidity etc change. Or go with a more conservative one and just leave it

When I had my GMC I did the intake and exhaust and all it did was make more noise. GM has all their ecm's built with torque management and abuse management. Once I programed the ecm it was a new truck. The mods made a difference but the ecm kept detuning the engine

I've been doing a LOT of reading about different tunes since it's all new to me. There are a lot of reputable companies doing tunes, some even offer powertrain warranties if you want to spend some additional $$$. Since my truck is a daily driver, I'm looking primarily to make it a little more fun to drive, improve the shifting strategies and get an improved tune for towing, all for 87 octane. I'm absolutely not looking for an aggressive tune, I want one that doesn't require the maintenance, just clean up the stock language to make the truck more efficient, take the lag out of the drive by wire system, clean up the shifting and possibly have a performance tune that I switch to from time to time if I want to let the truck loose a little :)

My idea with going through Tasca is they are a Ford dealership so, knowing their own work and the Ford warranty, I figured they would be my best bet for getting the truck tuned and keeping the warranty. They aren't the cheapest but if I can keep the warranty, that's worth some extra money in my opinion.

Hell no! I know I have some redneck tendencies but no truck I own will ever have stacks unless I hit the lottery and buy a tractor to tow the new toy hauler.

Well, tuner is out. I got some round-about response from Tasca referencing the Magnuson-Moss Act blah, blah, blah. I can't say I'm too surprised, one of those 'gotta pay to play' add-ons. I've found little to no information about people having issues with a tune from a reputable source (and with the mild tune I'm looking to do, I doubt I'd ever have trouble) or Ford denying warranty coverage but the risk is definitely there. Seems tunes are better meant for toys, not daily drivers.
