I bought two sets of chrome plated mirror covers. First set was wrong cover so I lost that money. Did not fit 2015. Next set was a more expensive but very high quality piece from Putco and fits. So I take them to painter and ask for color match. He says they are electrostatically chrome plated and he cant strip chrome without ruining mirrors and paint wont stick by just scuffing. It will start to blow off at edges then peel eventually? I don't buy it! I thought folks here have done this? Any painters disagree? Thanks. I'm already half pregnant on this project and hate to just drop the ball now?

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I'm thinking he's right, not much will stick. You may get away with plasti-dip but it won't be a color match. I wonder if you could use that Krylon that works on plastic, but again, no exact match.

I'm thinking whatever you put on there will get chipped, the mirrors take a hit with bugs and stones.

They won't paint chrome. I took my truck to have the rear bumper painted to match my truck and they won't even touch chrome. I'm just going to buy a Pelfreybilt rear bumper and be done with it.

How about powder coating your steel chrome bumper? I have had a lot of chromed steel powder coated on my bike and its never even nicked. Hard as nails

I'm afraid it wouldn't match the paint on the truck. I've ordered a Pelfreybilt aluminium front bumper and I'm going to have it painted to match my truck. I'll leave the back bumper black.

Buy it! Backyard experts and teenagers will tell you different but there is no way to coat stainless and have a durable long lasting finish. Chrome has to be removed unless you want a temporary ghetto job. Sand it off or have a plating shop dip it off. The Internet says both oven cleaner and bleach can remove it. Apparently brake fluid can also do the trick but its really hard on plastics.

Got the Chrome plating company who is replating my bikes exhaust heat shields to agree to dip and strip the chrome plating off the mirror covers. Then I can have the raw covers painted. I want the covers because I like the shape and coverage which leaves a little black showing. It will be a nice contrast! That's why I'm going through all this hassle.
