I didn't install and mods today but I chased down a dodge challenger that ran 2 cars off the road. One of which was a car with 2 kids in the back seat. I was actually surprised at how well my truck handled corners and was able to keep up with the car. The cops did eventually catch them after I called in the tag number and reported the location.

Driving reckless to get the info of a reckless driver. Satisfaction level = Expert.

Since they were driving in such a way to run cars off of roadways, and you were chasing them, were you not also putting others at risk of injury and death as well? Or is your dangerous driving okay and different than his?

The impact area was reconnoitered and determined to be safe to fire into. This is Alaska; there are so few people here that certain risks can be reasonably taken. In this specific instance, there is nothing but wilderness for hundreds of miles in that direction (map recon for this). The bullets impacted within eyesight into the valley floor below.

Still isn't safe firearm use, doesn't matter how you spin it. Like you said, it's Alaska and I'm pretty sure he could've shot that target with a safe background rather than into what looks to be a valley.

Also, what caliber rifle is that, you might be surprised at how far it will travel before it drops. Especially looking at how high he is in relation to that valley. And what the hell is "eyesight" supposed to be for the bullet drop? It's a picture and I can see for miles.

Don't feed the gun haters with stupid shit like this.

I agree. Never shoot when you don't know what's 100% behind your target.

I guess you would have had to be there. The photo is taken with an iPhone, so the perception is off. Point taken, and I agree; myself and the others on ground agreed that it was safe to fire.

We were shooting 5.56 NATO (M855), so the the above information is relevant. The civilian standard is to shoot into a dirt berm immediately behind the target. While this is definitely the most safe, proper precautions and the appropriate application of knowledge can determine if other shooting areas are safe to use as well. The graphics depict surface danger zones (SDZ's) for small arms. Many military ranges don't have dirt berms for backstops.

I understand, I know you made sure it was safe, but at the same time it isn't necessarily safe, I know that sounds stupid but all I'm saying is that it's pictures like this that feed the people that think guns are being used in an unsafe manner. I watched a video where a guy in California said bullets shouldn't be illegal, they should just be $1000 each .

It's just that I hate ignorant people who don't know anything about firearms and hunting that want to feel important so they see something like this and they blow it out of proportion. All in all, I'm sure you guys know what your doing out there, but it in my humble opinion, it isn't safe firearm procedure.

Also, aren't military firing ranges generally closed off to the public with fences? I thought safe precautions made it so that even if you guys are shooting with out a backstop there isn't a chance anyone would be down range unless they entered the range and walked out in front of the targets?

installed Nathan's trail toy fuel tank skid over the weekend. Very good alternative for non OR owners not looking to buy different straps for skids. Weighs 8lbs...

I've never heard of buying straps for skids. Secondly what's the TRD package have to do with the skids?
Edit: I looked at the GB and I see what you're talking about but I never had any idea about the straps. Why?

The Offroad is the only model that comes with a gas tank skid, and it's held in place with bolts that are integral to the gas tank straps. Every other model has straps without the bolts. Hence why there's an added cost for Sport, SR5, etc. owners who want a steel or aluminum gas tank skid. Everyone, except for me, uses those four bolts as their skid attachment points.

Mounted an excessive amount of lights on my truck. Found a way to stuff two daystar switches in the factory ports.

Wow. I NEVER knew that.... And I'm having a hard time finding the skid itself. How thick is it and does it do the job? I assume not if everybody is looking for replacements?

Pretty sure 886s will go into bilsteins. Not sure how it'll ride though.

You'd be better off using OME struts with OME coils

The stock skid is fairly thin. I have a sport so I haven't tested one personally. For the most part we're worried about abrasion and puntures, hence why I made the UHMW skid.

Had a thought the other day (and I know nothing about this material, so bear with me) but if there was enough rigid framing to it, do you think the UHMW could make a decent light weight front skid since its puncture resistant and slippery? Obviously it wouldn't be as durable as steel but for people who don't aggressively wheel it might not matter as much.

Honest curiosity lol no idea if that material would even be close to being strong enough even if it is puncture resistant.
