I've been thinking about buying another Tacoma (had a 99 that I kept for a few years). I was under the impression that I would find me a nice '12-'13 with a few thousand miles (25K or under) and let the original buyer take the "hit" .... Boy was I wrong!!!

Found a '13 TRD Sport DCSB with 24K miles listed for $30K and thought that I could talk them down a little ... and it was very little. OTD best I could do was $32,600 ... I really hadn't looked at new models to see what they were selling for. Started looking around today and found a few 2015 DCSB TRD Off-Road that were listed online for $33.5k - $35K ...

One of the dealerships called me and gave me an OTD price of $34.6K

So looking at the numbers, for $1800 more I could have a '15 with 8 miles on it.

At first I started thinking that maybe the dealer with the '13 was just overpriced and not willing to make a deal, but after looking at autotrader, etc., it seems like all used '13 and up are priced just a few thousand below new '15.

My question, which truck is worth the price? Is a TRD Sport with almost 25K miles really worth just $1800 less than a '15 TRD Off Road with 8 miles????

    What would you buy????

    First post, sorry so long

New one has the warranty and you probably get Toyota Care with it, as well.

Are the warranties transferable to a new owner? If they aren't, you're probably better off with the new one. We looked at new-ish Tacomas and the prices were so ridiculous we just decided to buy new and get exactly what we wanted.

    I would offer them 30otd.

In Canada vehicles are more, but I bought a 2013 Limited for 35,000 otd. A new one is over $42,000.

Had the same problem. Bought a new one even though I didn't want to, but it didn't make sense not too.

What you are seeing is why I bought new also.

Here a low mile 12 was within 3k dollars of a 14. So I bought new.

Just buy new. I read an article just yesterday that stated the Tacoma currently has the best resale value of any vehicle on the market in the US.

People hold on to these trucks, and used ones are always a hot ticket. That's why dealers are so cocky on the price. You'll probably be able to negotiate better for a new one.

This is why I just bought a new one.

Not necessarily. The best rate Toyota finance offers on new Tacoma's is 3.59% I believe. If you buy a certified one they will do 1.9%.

Or at least that was the case when I got mine last month. Better interest rate on the CPO.

I bought my Canadian TRD Sport in 2013 for $37,000 OTD. That's the lowest price I've ever seen and it was sold to me by my ex-wife, wife at the time.

Finance rates tend to be lower on new cars over the same term. The reason being that companies make more money selling a new vehicle than a used one in most cases. I know my local Ford dealer told me they get a better kickback on financing new rather than used where they get very little.

I think it was for 60 months, but I'm not positive. So you could be right about that.

Lower than 1.9%? I want to know where you bank :D.

I find on used vehicles you can get better rates from the Bank, but sometimes with companies that own their own financing arm still the opposite is definately true.

Same issue when I bought my 2009 Prerunner. For $2350 more I got 30k less on the ODO, warranty, TRD, and factory tow pkg.. I offered $20k max for their 2008 and they started crying about what they had in it. I said fine keep it and find me a new one.

Prices of used Tacomas are crazy, throw out the year model, if miles are low it is a mid 20's plus truck, even for an 05 model.

Toyota finance at 3.59% for 60 months was better than my credit union and other banks that gave me offers. Next closest was 3.89%. My credit union was 3.99%.

I bought a 2015 back in February and got 1.75% interest rate at a local Georgia credit union. Used vehicle rates were about 3.2%.

I was running into the same thing when I was looking for used '12s or newer... Decided to spend a little more and buy new... Plus it was the exact model/color I wanted and has warranty/Toyo care!
