I think he gave us 2 weeks to sell 13,000 season tickets but it only took about 20 minutes.

Yeah I guess Bettman just read between the lines and predicted that nobody would ever buy Jets merchandise. And that no companies have clients to wine and dine in Murderpeg... except maybe Bail Bondsmen.

13,000 seats isn't a full building, even in Winnipeg. The poster suggested Winnipeg needs a full building to survive. More important for Winnipeg is that they keep enough corporate support to keep the team in the black.

Corporate support is going to tighten everywhere if the economy keeps falling off like it is.

That is true. Also, we have to point out that ticket prices were between $39 and $129, super super cheap compared to most CDN markets. I think it's great that they sold the 13k in record time, but they definitely priced the tickets in a way to help them get there quickly.

    Here's the quote:
Said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman: "To be candid, this isn’t going to work very well unless this building is sold out every night."

Bettman said WPG needed a full building every night to survive.
Capacity is 15,015. They couldn't sell seasons for every single seat. Some are reserved for the visiting teams etc.

Only Montreal and Toronto have a higher average ticket price.

Where in that statement was an ultimatum :notsure:.

Gary never said "if Winnipeg doesn't get 13,000 seats sold right now then there's no team in Winnipeg." Right from your own article here's a valuable quote:

"Worth noting: the 13,000 figure wasn’t imposed on True North as a condition of the sale, but a figure the organization believed it needs to meet to make the franchise viable."

Bettmen didn't set the 13,000 seat number. The Winnipeg franchise did. When Winnipeg first left they had a drive that sold a 10,000 season ticket goal easily right before the team announced they were moving...

BTW officially the Flames sell there tickets for an average of $79 a game to season ticket holders. I heard that right out of Ken Kings mouth a few weeks ago at the VIP event I got to go to at the saddle dome. The average cost of a season ticket to the Dallas Stars, a team that has had some attendance issues, was almost exactly the same given the difference in the dollar.

    So...

$79 avg season ticket price is BULLSHIT.
Maybe they're averaging in all the tickets they give away to kids up front or something!

Nope, that's the average. The Dallas Stars owner was right there too and backed him up. Trust me, Ken King is a very honest guy especially in person. IF you ever get a chance to go to a VIP event hosted by ownership, DO IT. You get to ask and hear answers to all sorts of interesting questions. The fun part was the questions he wouldn't answer, like on the new arena proposal or the possibility of a Las Vegas franchise.

You are thinking about the Stubhub or day of sale tickets that sell for +$400 for every Canadian team.

I'd hazard an educated guess Forbes pulled those numbers from either StubHub or day of sale face value. BTW I know that radio station, nice to see another guy on here from around Lethbridge ;).

A buddy was at that event I believe - Or a similar one. He said someone asked Burke about Jonny Gaudreau and he said he had no idea what to do with the guy because of his size but that he was maybe the most talented player he had ever seen. Pretty cool.

I thought you were a Winipegger at first, mostly because you don't find many people who aren't Winnipeggers defending Winnipeg. You in Okotoks? I'm YYC but the outskirts, springbank area.

I'm about 2 hours south of Calgary down by Lethbridge. Rock 106.7 is one of the local radio stations here.

I've only been the Leth one time, for a race a few years back. Those coulees are a killer! Windy too.
