Mpg ??

Looking to buy my first Tacoma and was wanting to know if I would be able to get 20-21 mpg?

Looking at a double cab 4x4 or a pre-runner. Would I see much of an increase in mpg with the pre-runner over the 4x4?

It will be driven 90% highway miles @ 65-70 mph.

it all depends on your driving habits...but I have a '06 TRD Off-Road 4x4...I also have installed the TRD CAI, DTLH (Doug Thorley's Long Tube Headers) and APR X-1...I average between 21-23 MPG...I typically see 410+ miles per tank...our gas tank is 21.1 gallons...

 

With your driving you should be able to reach 20 just fine.

I have a lifted PreRunner with AT tires and driving to Fort Worth and back I usually get 20-21mpg. Auto tranny. Cruise set at about 70-74. AC on. Only other mod besides the lift and tires is that I threw in a AFE Pro Dry air filter.

Now what I have noticed is that my MPG dips down dramatically when there is any headwind (or sidewind for that matter).

 

Completely depends on how you drive. If you're easy on it then you can get 20-21mpg (speaking of my 4x4). All highway maybe up to 22-23.

If I put a little power behind getting around the city though I average more like 17.5-18 for a tank.

When I picked mine up from the dealer with 4 miles on it I had a 4 hour drive back home and that first tank on all highway was 21.5mpg.

 

You lose something like 400 lbs of extra weight if you go with the Prerunner I think. So that will help mpgs. You should be able to check out the Toyota site and compare models and see their EPA ratings- Not perfect information...but it's a starting point.

 

The weight diff is just a hair over 200lbs.

i am the only one on here who drives this much... about 200-300 a day monday thru friday. i drive almost all highway with prerunner with almost 32" tires and i see 23-27 mpg. do the prenunners ahve 21 gallon tank too? i have a 05 prerunner double cab... most i have ever put in it was 15 gallons at around 315 miles.

 

have a 2009 prerunner double cab... trd off-road package. ... i get about 19-21 mpg in so cal. this is with the stock tires.

i had a 2003 prerunner...double cab (which got totaled in an accident but that's another story)... when i changed the stock 265/75/16's for 275/70/16's pirelli scorpions. mpg went from 19-20 to 17-19 ...

so tires of course make a big differnce.

 

maybe my trip meter is wrong... uh... yeah...

 

I have an access cab pre-runner V6, and I have a 110 mile per day commute. I generally get about 17 mpg one way and 19-20 mpg the other way, according to the Scangauge. This is travelling at 70-75 mph most of the time.
