ok.. my camera is old now.. well not that old.. but its about 3 or 4 years old.. bought it for 500 bucks back then... its a canon powershot 550.....a friend dropped it 2 years ago.. it still works and functions like i needed it to.... but this morning i went for a motocycle ride with a club that im in... we were gonna get a group shot.. i handed my camera to a guy and i let go before he had positive control.. i was like no biggy.. but it broke... now its just paper weight and im gonna get an upgrade.. i dont really have a price for a new one.. maybe one of those high tech one's... with very clear pictures i see on this site.... can anyone lead me in the right direction on choosing a camera? anyone repairs cameras?

yeah just keep researching see what you really need. once i need a new one im gettin the d40 for sure, im going all out and gettin it and many lenses. but its a little bulky and more expensive. my gf's dad is always going on motorcycle rides and went to sturgis. the cybershot h20 is compact enough to fit in his saddle bags nicely and lightweight but gives excellent quality pictures with great zoom. all in all, its what you want though :)

Point and shoot or a DSLR? This is where you need to start.

I would go into a best buy or someplace like that and pick up and hold everything they have, don't buy but listen to the recommendations.
When you get home go to this website: http://www.pbase.com/cameras
Click on the brand you are looking at and look for the model you are looking for.
You can than look at the images that folks have taken with that camera.
I would use this website: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ to get a good idea on pricing. BH has outstanding customer service across the board.
    Good luck.

I just bought a Panasonic DMC FZ35, has a $50 rebate on crutchfield, lots of features for $350, including RAW format 18X optical zoom, HD Recording etc etc. Menu is very user friendly, I'm loving it so far.

Yep thats an easy one, Sony cybershot. I got mine at Walmart for about $135.00 & it is aaawwesome, 10.1 pixel,4x optical zoom, shoot videos w/audio you can drive down the road & snap away with digital clarity like your standing still, get one & you'll kick yourself for not getting one earlier ( just like your Tacoma )..... pics taken recently, check out clarity & detail & this is considered the low end Sony cam man I wish Toyota & Sony would partner up & build a truckcam (maybe they do)

point and shoots are for the average person...DSLR/SLR is for someone who wants to have a little more control over the pictures/lighting/focus etc
