    He's a goof!

Yeah haha we had a lab that was similar. I can't believe some of the things this dog does. In mornings I have to pull him off the bed if it's earlier than 7:30 am. Then when I let him in he just goes back to bed :p.

Or he just lays in lakes. Doesn't seem to enjoy swimming, but casually laying is perfect. On walks he will occasionally just say screw it and lay in shade.

He wont just stand up in other rooms. He will goto the wall and lean against it so he doesn't have to fully support his weight.

If he did any activity at all he won't jump in the truck. Instead he put two paws on the sliders and give me the look that says "well, what are you waiting for"

Man I love this dog. Best thing that has happened in my life for the past 4 or 5 years.

My dog does the same thing. Should have seen him after we walked 4 miles to go fishing the other day. He's getting heavy to pick up too!

Also made Cooper a new leash this week. I work hard on training my dog and don't want him to get in the habit of dragging me along on walks. I looked forever for a short lead, but couldn't find one anywhere local.

Might make a for-sale thread for these if anyone is interested.

    They are smart bastdards!
Oliver won't jump in my truck either, he'll run through the woods jumping up small rock cliffs and embankments but won't jump in the truck
He doesn't like the vehicle too much though which is probably why, which is weird since he's been traveling almost everyday his whole life.
Wish I could break his anxiety.

You usually have to order online for anything that isnt a stupid retractable or 6' lead. But all the big names do carry them.

    http://www.petsmart.com/dog/leashes/top-paw-traffic-length-dog-leash-zid36-19396/cat-36-catid-100084?var_id=36-19396&_t=pfm%3Dcategory%26pfmvalue%3Dfaceted

Not sure how a 6' leash became the standard. I don't see how you could control a dog with that much leash. Ive always preferred 4'

Does anyone have any feedback on Rattlesnake Vaccines?
I was going to do this for Lila, but what im reading is there isnt much proof it actually helps

    http://www.petmd.com/blogs/fullyvet...tion-series-part-2-rattlesnake-vaccines-30527

"Since we don’t have scientific proof that the vaccine works in dogs, we have to resort to anecdotal evidence. Among vets who have given it to their patients, the general consensus seems to be that it “may” help. In other words, vaccinated dogs seem to get a little less sick after being bitten than do unvaccinated ones, but they can still die after an especially severe bite."

I use a 30ft check cord for Ash's daily walks :D. I just have it rolled up to 4-5ft until we get to the park and then drop it.

I have always found traffic leads at hunting stores. Mostly local shops but cabelas would probably have them as well.

Amazing places to roam. We just got back from a trip to Eastern Oregon last week... going to move out to the high desert country of the Burns area. Bought a 2014 Tacoma... awaiting its new cap... been house shopping... now just got to pack up the house, the dogs, the wife and kitties, and get out to adventures in the big wide open. :) How we accumulated so much stuff in the past 13 years here, I'll never know.

Someone was talking about rattlesnake vaccines. My smartass thought... doggy leg gators. But seriously, something I'll have to start thinking about if we're going to go play around in the desert.

When we adopted our Aussie... the rescue group told us they came in High Drive, Medium Drive, and Couch Potato. Hahaha! Looks like maybe you guys have one in the third category, too? :)

Nice leash project. Came out looking good.

You might check out "dog agility" gear online. Years ago I had a short lead I picked up at some event or other.

There's the standard 6 foot leads. And then in agility the deal is they run without their collars... some folks have a short one foot lead or so... they can reach down and unlatch the collar for the dog's run. Or... you can get a lead that's a slip knot deal... so no collar necessary. But those aren't really safe for long walks and stuff. Too easy to choke the dog or lose them if they slip out.

But just so you know other options out there. I still like the homemade lead there. Cool.

I just ordered one of these for my dog. I had a 6ft paracord lead but it was annoying to have to either use both hands to shorten it, and if I rolled it around my hand it became pretty uncomfortable. My dog also liked to pull whenever he saw a squirrel or rabbit, and there are a TON around me. So, this leash has a traffic loop built in, plus the middle section is made out of a shock absorbing material which should help with sudden jolts.
