So to better understand this... you bought a '14 used and 29 hrs later traded it in for a new '15...

    Questions:
-was this the same dealer? Wouldn't the dealer just let you return it?
-Did you loose money on the used '14 when you traded it in 29 hrs later?

I bought my 07 3 years used from a dealer in '10, two months ago traded it for a '15. Something nice about a real "new" truck, mine still had shipment plastics on some of the body panels when I went in to drive/buy. While my '07 never had many problems, I still didn't know how it was broken in or where that dent/scratch came from or why that's missing. They always say it's the little things, maybe I'm just OCD? I don't think you're crazy OP!

YEah thats pretty much it. I had to pay another $4000 plus $500 for accessories. At the end of the day it was worth $4500 to go from a 14 with 18K that had tailgate damage (that could not be covered up with a new cover) to a 15 with 0 miles.

The dealer Did let me return it. I had to cut another check for $4500 to step up to the 15. They could have really beaten me up on the 14 (as a trade) but in reality I only paid the $4000 difference between a used 14 and a new 15, Then added boards and tint, Toyota Care, 3M protection on door edges, for $500.

I think anyone with the money would have paid $4000 to get a brand new truck vs a truck with 18K miles that needed a tailgate assy to be right

Exactly. The money was inconsequential to the benefit of a new truck. I would have likely paid the same if I just went for the 15 to begin with (they did not have this truck in their inventory as it was just off the truck and needed the PDI done. They did it while I waited and I asked them not to include wheel locks or any excess suff they throw on at the dealers to increase the price, Like Nitrogen tires.....waste Great for planes of no practical use for Vehicles.

It is the little things on the used truck that made me suspect the previous owner was not at all as careful about the truck.

So all in your paid ~$31K for the truck you wanted. Sounds pretty solid to me.

This makes more sense. Originally it sounded like you traded the '14 in on the '15 and took a $4,500 hit.

Four grand isn't a lot to go from a used truck to a brand new one (as long as they're similarly equipped).

Very nice truck. Sometimes it is easier to just follow your gut instincts.

At the end of the day that's exactly it, now it's OP's decision to lose his second Fob as he sees fit!

YEP and I probably overpaid by $500 as they initially gave me $1500 above what CarMax offered on my trade, $17K on a 2012 RAV 4 base with 32K is a lot of trade value (or cap reduction) Had four dings that went to the paint and a hood marred by bird droppings that ate through the clear. Was a grocery runner and tow vehicle behind a motorhome. Looking at an MX5 as a replacement for that and the Corvette I sold.

Exact same truck Color as well.

Not gonna happen I still have the extra fob I bought for the 14 still. Have to get it programmed for the 15 though. :p

That package stays in the brown envelope in my garage complete until I trade or sell. Only the service manual stays out as I have Toyota do all the services on them and make them sign the book. Looks good when you go to sell. :D
