My opinion on lasers is that they many times can make for a lazy shooter.
With that said, depends on gun and use of said gun. There is definitely a cool factor and I'd be a hypocrite to post that I haven't bought for cool before.
Everyone should or should have owned at least one laser and I've only owned one. :)

I use one on my carry gun. I always turn it off when target for shooting or training. When it's on I don't even see it. I use sights for aiming. There a few situations where it could come in handy, like if you can't align your eye to the sights for whatever reason. You can aim out from cover without exposing as much of your body. It could also be a realization aid for a BG.
I'd only recommend it for an already accomplished shooter though. It's to easy to become reliant on it. I'll probably never need it, but I'll probably never need my gun. I carry it anyway.

Pulled the wood off of my N-PAP AK47 and put some stain on it. Wiped it down and let it sit all night then the next morning I smeared it down with some Tom's 3-1 Pine Tar mix. Then blow torched it into the grain better. Now it stinks like a trash can burn pile with a pallet in it. Although it should last a lifetime now. Pics coming later when the sun comes out.

I think of lasers as more of a deterrent. Dude with a laser on his chest at night will probably more likely retreat than without a laser, especially if he doesnt see the gun at night. FYI I dont own a laser.

It would used on my carry gun which would be a day time or driving at night situation. For home defense I have the 500 and I don't need a laser to know thAt I'm about to ruins someone's night if I use it. My .38 stays on my side or in my truck.

But I can definitely see where a laser would make a lazy shooter. And I get the comment about the deterrent.

Shrug. I have a "lazer" :)drevil:)on my carry gun (CT Lasergrips). If I ever need to use it I might be in a hurry, and having that red dot indicating my point of aim might save me a crucial 1/2 second. I don't use it when I'm training other than to make sure it's still trued to point of aim/impact; I use the sights the rest of the time.

However, I agree that they can make a shooter lazy, if they're 'training' with the ..."lazer" rather than the sights.

    "Lazers"

I just like saying it in my head.

    Much troof to deterrent.

Meh, buy it. You may love it. I dig em.

lol. Like I said, I have no beef with em. There have been 1 or 2 on here that are critically anti laser. pew pew.
I also know that many are actually slower with the use of one as it may take a bit more time when it comes to target acquisition.

It would be a cool exercise to accurately measure speed and grouping with and without. I've never done it but, I feel like in a situation when there was little reaction time and under stress. I would hesitate when tracking laser instead of instinctual proper placement.

Major gun companies aren't offering them on top of the line guns because they don't work.

    lazerz.

Yea I know the reasons why, just needed to vent.

I am one of those hoarders you speak of, but I also shoot weekly in a handgun course so 45 is getting expensive.

Most self-defense "confrontations" happen within 10-15 feet....at that range, you should be able to acquire target silhouette's center mass, and procede to put rounds downrange almost instantly, without havin' to "find" the lazer, or using the iron sights, which both utilizes those crucial milliseconds....I teach the "Point and Fire" technique Ad Nauseam in my defensive combat classes.....be surprised how quick you can get rounds off, and tight groupings become with practice....actually the antithesis of lazy shooting...

Slowly building my inventory up. Four hungry mouths to feed and a suppressor on the way. :). $94.72/500 to my door. Got 550 147gr a couple weeks ago from Freedom for $115 shipped. Working on doing a "get off your brass" deal with them. Have scavenged about four gallons of spent casings from my buddies range. The CCW classes held there are helping me out by not picking up their casings...except for the cheapies who shoot Tula. :p
