I was thinking around $8k... which means it'll probably be at least $10k. :anonymous: I didn't keep track of the SAS cost like I should have, but I am keeping track of the engine cost.

I have silicone spray and penetrating oil. Either of those work okay? And yeah, the garage is the last place it'll go until everything is assembled.

Hahaha! At 10k rpms, that's what your exhaust is going to be doing to your rods :p

I don't think it'll ever get that high. IIRC, I think with the numbers/calcs I was running before it was going to be ~ 8k-8.5k max. I'm going to look over them again. One of the reasons I went with the stage 5 valvetrain was the HD springs and inconel exhaust valves to withstand sustained high RPMs if needed. Tentatively I'm going to go with the LCE custom rod/piston set but I'm still looking into some of the other suggestions before I make that move.

Its def good insurance to overbuild. Ive seen more than a few engines blow when a downshift was more RPM's than what was bargained for.

What do you count as "part of the engine"? Do you stop at the turbo? Manifolds? ECU? Radiator/intorcooler? Plumbing? Reservoirs? Fuel system?
I'll add whatever else to the list.

A quick breakdown of costs so far. Not including material costs for cleaning, painting, port/polish, etc. Subtotals include tax/shipping/labor.

Removal of old valve guides - $50
    Resurface head - $75
    Resurface block - $145
    $300.80

    8mm pro valve shims - $71.84
    Bronze valve guides - $111.20
    Injector cups - $19.95
    Stage 2 camshaft set - $599.95
    Stage 5 master valvetrain kit - $1,299.95
    Installation/fitment of all the above - $1,750
    $4135.68

And off the top of my head what is still to be added (With certainty and approximate costs)

    Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors - $480
Paradise Racing intake manifold (w/ gasket) and fuel rail - $1,097
75mm Ford Mustang style throttle body - $210
    Borg Warner EFR 6758 - $1,730
DIY turbo manifold kit - $260
    Brass Freeze Plug Set -$27
Oil Filter Adapter Inlet Plate - $20
    Scraper - $70
Power Steering Pump Bracket - $49
    Head Stud Set - $115
    Water Pump - $67
    Valve Cover Gasket - $14
LCE valve cover upgrade - $150
    LCE 9:1 compression rods/pistons - $1,250
    Adjustable cam gear - $110
    MLS head gasket $100

    $5,749

Sooooo yeah... that alone makes it already over the $10k mark. $10,185. :anonymous: No need to add the intercooler, ECU, and all that other crap.

I'm so cheap, I can't afford not to. Wait, what?

    It was more like...
    "What? Crap. Okay. :("
    "What? Crap. Okay. :("
    "What? Crap. Okay. :("
    ...

I just talked to my insurance last week and they said would insure it for the estimated value of the truck in 'stock' form and an additional $5k max for modifications.

    Bingo. :anonymous:

Don't use silicon spray. Wouldn't use penetrating oil either. Just wd40. Or engine oil in a spray bottle and a light coat.

You'll soray all the oil off it for install with brake clean

The oil is just for storage. To keep the rust away and such.

Still would not build your own exhaust header for the turbo. What 400 more bucks gonna hurt at this point to get a pro built one.

    WD40 it is then. Thanks.

In regards to the manifold, I figured I'm gonna need it 'custom' for fitment's sake. I wouldn't necessarily be making it myself. At most, I'd tack it together and have a... 'professional' :)luvya: Gage) do the proper TIG.

Just looked over this and holy shit. Do you have a power 'goal' in mind for the motor? lets say crank hp, I don't even want to know what drivetrain loss % is on that thing.

Hard to say what my power goal is, because A: I've never done this before. B: Most high hp turbo 4banger builds are in cars so I don't have a lot of info to go on, and C: I'm primarily concerned more with torque.

I want to be able to get those 37"-40" tires moving easily and in a hurry, especially from a dead stop or on an incline, where I need to 'bump' up/over an obstacle. Things like that. I can have a lot of HP, but if I don't have the torque to get the truck moving, I'm screwed. Of course, that's how I picture it in my mind anyway. :anonymous:

I hear ya. Pretty stoked to see it finished. Definitely in the top 5 most badass taco's I've ever seen/heard of. Motor build puts it way up there.
