I keep an extension cord & a couple LED work lights in the bed to plug into the bed mounted A.C. outlet. Can provide good perimeter lighting in emergencies, etc. I am also an EMT &Firefighter. When responding from home, to an emergency scene, the lights come in handy to get into bunker gear, etc. I usually keep the truck running to run emergency lights @ scene, so might as well use the good, bright A.C. lights.

Yup, last summer I went to Knockouts for a haircut. The local road construction crew had knocked out the power down the street and the ladies inside had a couple of customers that were sitting in the chairs for quite a while waiting for the power to come back online. So I asked if they needed a power outlet, then I dropped the tailgate and moved one of the chairs outside near the truck. They managed to finish the haircuts and then the power came back on shortly afterwards.

After all that, we moved the chair inside and I shut the truck down. I went inside and paid full pop for my haircut + tip, oh well....

It's amazing some knuckleheads don't find 400W AC to be useful.

Gimmicky. It's best use was probably used as part of a sale pitch. The money would have been best put towards a stronger tailgate, or any one of the numerous shortcomings people post about.

I have a little 1.5cf fridge (mini-fridge) that I use while camping. The day before I leave out for a camping trip. I stock up my lil fridge with crap like mayo, mustard, burger patties, steaks if im gonna splurge a bit..... basicly stock it up with all my refrigerated food items so they dont have to go in a cooler. When its time to go, I load the bed of the truck with all my camping stuff like a grill, chairs ext..... I just leave a spot open to load my fridge and plug it in. Hook up to the pop up camper and haul ass. :D

Have done this twice so far, and it seems that there is no real tax on the electrical system at all, everything runs just fine.

I have a small "pancake" type air compressor that WILL run on the outlet too, I can tell the compressor runs real slow and is sluggish, but its nice to know I CAN if im in a bind.

I also need to add that I HAVE done the 400w anytime mod on my truck. The mini-fridge wouldnt run at 100w.

I use mine every once in a while. Drill, speakers, and work light are what I have plugged in recently.

I modded to have two outlets in the cab in addition to the bed. I use the in cab outlets more, but I've run lights and drills and other small tools before.

And for a good cup of drip coffee while camping without electricity, I love this little guy:

Brilliant.. I'll need to fix a couple lines in the next few days when I have time and I didnt think of that.

Ok, I have this sommovabish, http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-33967-6-Quart-Programmable/dp/B001AO2PXK

Will that work with the outlet or will it pop the fuse or kill the electrical system? Im not much of an electronics genius. I have used a small crock pot before, but I am thinking it would be a real nice hit for rolling into camp late on the first night to have delicious hot food without any prep. :)

If I were to use a small crock pot and cook for 6 hours would my stock battery be OK without starting the truck?

No. 6 hours with a crock pot would more than likely kill the battery. Anything that heats or cools usually has a pretty high current draw.

Yep - I use it all the time. The wife and I do a lot of biking on trails - so for most of the year I have a Yakima hitch mounted bike rack on the truck so we can haul our bikes around. I keep a small 120V Campbell Hausfeld air compressor in the back of the truck that I can plug into the bed outlet and quickly pump up bike tires. This compressor will fill a car tire as well - it takes a while (5-10 minutes per tire) but it works. I always keep the air compressor in the bed. I have filled tires for my wife, son, and my neighbor when they have had flat or nearly flat tires. I've heard many times how the bed outlet is useless. It is not. I've powered a few other things from it - a drill once - a blender at a tailgate - but I use it all the time for the air compressor.

I don't use the outlet in the back much but I did pull power from the inverter to put this in the cab and I use it all the time. Its also great to have the extra USB ports built in. I also did the mod so I have 400 Watts all the time and not just in park.

have own the truck for 3 years and never have found any use for that outlet, the price to keep the outlet going is more expensive than what it's worth, maybe some day when a hurricane comes i'll make use of it.

I'll use the outlet in the bed more than I'll ever use the gopro mount in the 2016's.
