What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I've had it for a couple years now, and my air box is totally intact

 

i thought about getting rid of the air box and get a k&n air filter on the factory air intake pipe. and cut the top part of the air box off just to help reduce mud getting caked on the new air filter. but im not sure what the dimensions are for the intake pipe are.

 

Mine broke to hell on the first trip.

I was doing over 50mph on dirt roads and whoops and ruts following psycho long travel guys.. LOL

 

Well, I don't do that. That may be why mine isn't broken!

I would have done the same thing. there isn't an air raid tube for the 3rz right?

well it guess there probably is not much point in me trying to fill in the accordion parts of the intake tube then, probably would just be a waste of time/$..

 

I am doing solid aluminum tube for my Snorkel. There are the rubber joints that allow for movement.

 

I've only seen it for the 5vz

Your stock intake is fine as is.

also keep in mind the more high performance filter you use the more dust and dirt passes into the tube.

 

Yea I think that's my plan, I'm just tired of these crap mpg's I'm getting, i was getting 15mpg with my 31's and now about 11 mpg's with my 33's. Im just trying to get my mpg's up a little, I'm going to regear soon.

So long as it's not an oiled filter like the k&n (got the drop in AFE pro dry).. I'm horrible at keeping it oiled and also probably over oiled it when I did do it.

 

I dont understand your low mpg numbers, You should be in the low 20's.

I get 16-17 and I drive like an asshole, mines a V6 and the same weight if not heavier. and I'm on 265/75/16 tires.

 

I don't get it either bro.. Can a blown vapor canister cause such bad mpg?! I know my vapor canister needs to be replaced eventually..

Edit: my area is pretty hilly now that I think about it though, I drive like an asshole as well haha..

 

Lots of little things can cause poor performance and mpg.

Bad or dirty O2 sensors
Bad or dirty spark plugs
Bad or improperly sealing spark plug wires
Bad coil packs
Bad cap and rotor for distributor
Bad compression on a cylinder
Dirty catalytic converters
Dirty fuel injectors
Bad or dirty MAF sensor
Bad throttle position sensor
Dirty throttle butterfly that does not close properly

 

Only 2 things on that list that hasn't been recently replaced/checked (within a year or two) literally have a brand new/rebuilt 3rz in my truck still gets light idle shakes and bad mpg. Other than that it runs like a tank.

Could also be transmission or rear axle related as well.

I hate rebuilt engines.. I had an old 22re that once rebuilt and had 4k miles on it to break in never ran right..

 

Hmm well it was basically a reman not a rebuild (not sure if that makes much difference..) how could one go about diagnosing what exactly is wrong?

 

I capped off both resonators on my v6, you can just make out both in this pic. I rigged up the breather hose too not sure if you have that, and have since painted it black. I wouldn't worry about the ribs in the tube at all

yeah idk what the deal is there but it seems like all the wiring is just spliced with electrical tape surrounding probably just to get everything working enough to sell it..somebody said fuck it more than once lol.

I've been overheating like a mofo as well. actually ever since I got the thing. had to drive it the whole way home with the heater on to cool the engine..but i just replaced the t-stat and got a coolant flush and new radiator cap so it's better but once I wire up the electrical fan in front of the tranny cooler and radiator my overheating problems should pretty much disappear I'm hoping

 

Thanks for that pic man, I may revisit this mod as the one thing that bothered me was where to hook up the two vacuum/breather lines that were connected to the resonator.

 

Reman is a rebuilt it is just a fancy way of saying it. Reman=Remanufactured.
