Does such a thing exist? I regularly turn mine off, but I have noticed that it never truly turns off. It is actually dangerous in my opinion, to have a halfway functional/retarded computer to decide at the last second it should attempt to control your "exuberant" driving. So I ask, is there a way to truly, and I mean truly, turn of the traction control?

If you have a trd off-road model look up the abs kill switch. Turns off every traction aid there is on the truck.

LOL I know exactly what you mean by it being dangerous in certain "exuberant" driving situations.

If your traction will not turn off completely when the button is pushed and held you need to take it in to the dealer and have it looked at. This issue has been discussed before and some claim they do not turn off, but I contacted Toyota Corp. and they say yes they are suppose to turn all the way off. So again take your vehicle in and have it repaired if yours will not turn all the way off. I know when I turn mine off it is off and I do that every time I get into the truck.

I think this depends on the year. My 2011 seemed to completely turn off. Never got it to activate. My 2013 doesn't completely turn off however.

Disconnect one of your wheel sensors temporarily. It will completely turn off all traction control and ABS. If it's what you want then just place a toggle switch in line with the sensor. You will get a couple lights on your dash (ABS and trac off) but at least you can try it out before making any permanent changes. One thing to note, when you plug the sensor back in you have to turn off the ignition and then drive around for a bit until the computer recognizes the sensor and then the lights will go off on your dash.

My '13 turns completely off. You have to be completely stopped then press and hold the button for about 5 seconds. After that I can drift any corner I need to on the dirt.

My 13 will not completely turn off. If I do "light" drifting in the snow, I can get away with it. But if I'm going a little too fast, then the traction control still kicks in to correct the truck. That is with the long hold of the traction control button. Not the short push. Short push simply turns on auto lsd and turns off engine output management.

I'm pretty sure holding the button turns it completely off in my '11. I have never gotten it to try to correct me in the snow or mud that way.

A quick push disables the throttle regulation up to a certain speed, but it'll still correct you if you get it into a skid (2 HI, this is the default in 4 HI).

Like I stated above. If the traction control does not turn off you need it repaired. I contacted my local dealer about this and they told me that. I also contacted Toyota about it and they also told me the same thing. When turned off it is off unless it is malfunctioning and needs repaired. My 13 turns completely off. There is no almost off. As mentioned above. You have to be completely stopped to turn it off. The auto LSD will turn on while moving, but the traction control will not turn off while moving.

Here is the conversation with Toyota. Read from the bottom up.

Recently you contacted Toyota. Below is a summary of your contact message and our response.

Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.

SubjectVSC Discussion Thread Response Via Email (Jay Spencer)08/29/2013 12:56 PMSir,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry regarding the operation of the vehicle stability control system (VSC) on your 2013 Tacoma.

When VSC is turned off, it is off. The VSC system helps prevent the vehicle from slipping sideways as a result of strong front wheel skid or strong rear wheel skid during cornering.

If we can be of further assistance, please utilize the following link to find a variety of avenues to contact our offices, http://www.toyota.com/support/contact.html.

Customer By Web Form (Gerald) 08/28/2013 10:40 AMI recently purchased a new 2013 Tacoma 4X4 with a dealer 3 inch lift. My question is this. When manually disengaging the VSC is the system turned off or is it still on with a lower sensitivity?
    Thank you for time
