My 2015 SR 4 banger build

Since I'm starting to mod my new truck, I figured I'd be one of the cool guys and create my own build thread.

How it currently sits.



Started off with this, a new 2015 SR with convenience package access cab 4x4 with a 2.7L engine and 5MT transmission. Nothing special really, but I dig it.



Right off the bat I changed the shift knob to a TRD one.



Then I did the usual debadge and paint the grill emblem.



Next came the window tint. Went with 50% to stay VA legal.



Also added a Curt trailer hitch.



And thats pretty much where I am right now. However I just ordered the new Bilstein 6112 coil overs for the front, and 5100 shocks for the rear. I'm also in the market for a 265/75-16 all terrain tire to complete the look.

I also really want a Rigid light bar for behind the grill.

Also just ordered 265/75-16 BFG AT KO2 tires. Not thrilled about putting an E load tire on there, but hopefully it won't be too bad.

Now about that light bar...

 

How much did it run you new...if you don't mind answering that is.

 

I got the truck for $26,600 plus sales tax and dmv fees.

 

Suspension is built and shipping today.

 

Tires just arrived.

 

How do you like the 2.7 in the access cab? I drove one the other day but didn't drive it enough to have an opinion.

 

I like it. Wouldn't buy one with an automatic transmission though. Before this I had an 05 4Runner with the 4.0 V6 and I did like that truck. But I don't really need the extra power really, so I chose the 2.7L.

Last weekend I went to the track with a buddy. We had both our Yamaha YZ's in the back. His about 250 pounds, mine 225. Two fuel cans, our gear bags, tools, and a loaded cooler. The drive consisted of half highway at 70 mph and the rest was winding and hilly back roads between 35-45 mph. The truck did great and never skipped a beat. Never felt under powered in my opinion, though it certainly won't be winning any drag races. Hopefully the mods I'm doing won't hurt that drivability too much. I don't really think it will, but who knows.

I love the features the truck has as well. The sound system is pretty nice, and it's a quiet and comfy ride even with 600 pounds in the bed and a passenger. The looks are what drew me to this particular package.

Overall I'm happy with it.

 

I looked at a similar 2013 a few days ago. It was black with black trd wheels and BFG all terrians, only 8k miles.It looked really good, much like yours. I think i need to drive a 4.0 with a manual trans before i decide if i need the bigger motor. I have a wrx now so either one is going to seem slow i suppose. I don't plan on much...bigger tires and maybe a small lift.

 

Even the 4.0 with the 6 speed manual is kinda slow. My reasoning for getting the 4 cylinder was cheaper maintenance and operation costs over the life of the truck. Plus this thing is easy to work on and has lots of room under the hood. But I've always liked the 4 cylinder Toyota 4x4 trucks better than the 6 cylinders.

 

Hurry and install, I want to see it and get a review of how it all performs. I am digging your taste.

What wheels are you going to run?

 

I should have it all together next weekend if my suspension comes in Thursday. For now I'm sticking with the original wheels.

Got the tires installed. No rubbing.

 

Looks good, but the tire shop was lazy and left the stickers on the tires

Heck you don't even need a lift with the 265s. Beautiful truck.

6112 front and 5100 rear installed. Got 1.6" of lift on the front at position 2.

 

You are supposed to run the drivers side on position 2, the top notch. And you are supposed to run the passenger side on position 1, the bottom notch, to compensate for the driver side lean. Did you set them both for position 2? I am going to buy a new SR package crew cab and do the same lift with 275/70/17 BFG KO2s on either Konig six shooters or Fuel Trophys with no center caps, Ill paint the hubs black.

Yes, they are both on position 2. If I ran the passenger side on position 1 then I would be about 1/2" inch lower on that side than I am now. And I'd still have a lean probably. This way it's the same as stock, just 1.6" higher on both sides.

It had a 1/4" lean stock, and it's still here now. I'm not worried about it.
