as an IT consultant, I have been running Windows 7 for about a month now. WOW!! What a major step forward for Microsoft! I emplore any computer user to switch as soon as they can. You will not regret doing so. Not only is 7 blazing fast, but it contains all of the cool things about Vista in a package that actually works.

I'm using both Windows 7 and Mac OS X. It's like owning both a Sport and an Off-road Tacoma. :)

is this from a complete install or from an upgrade from vista?

i have always been concerned about upgrading OS's like that.

This. I'm still on XP even though I know it's not taking full advantage of my rig; as I refused to upgrade to the steaming pile of crap that is Vista. I plan to upgrade to 7 sometime next spring, after any initial issues have been ironed out. Will also upgrade mobo/proc/ram at the same time. No more 3 GB RAM cap FTW!

I run XP on my PC, and vista on both laptops....The XP machine, despite having half the memory, and a single processor vs. the laptops having 2 each, is just as fast. HURRY UP WINDOWS!!!!!

It's pretty much always better to do a fresh install when moving to a new OS. Things never seem to come out quite right when doing a upgrade of an existing install. If you want a worry-free way to do it, buy a new hard drive and install the new OS there. That way you have your old install left completely intact on the old drive and won't have to worry about whether there's something you forgot to transfer over or not.

You don't have to buy another harddrive, but I agree with reloading and not doing an upgrade. I don't ever upgrade with any of my clients. I blow away the old and bring the new.

No issues to date with Windows 7. I have apps that didn't run with vista only xp, but they do run with windows 7. There is no reason to wait whatsoever. I am running 7 on my work laptop and both of my home laptops and I have yet to have any issues whatsoever. They only thing that I can think of is Internet Explorer 8. It seems to be a little buggy, but no deal breaker. Just load firefox on if IE8 gives you any problems.

If you have a newer computer, Microsoft gives windows 7 owners the ability to run apps in XP mode. It's a virtual XP machine, but you don't have to start the virtual machine to run the apps in XP mode. Pretty cool stuff!!

Go for it on the 22nd when it hits the stores, you won't be sorry.

I'm not saying you have to buy another hard drive. I'm saying that, for people who are worried about screwing it up or not liking it, doing the install on a fresh hard drive will provide peace of mind because it doesn't risk their stuff and they can instantly revert.

I'm still running XP Pro, skipped on Vista, and will definitely upgrade to W7 after it's been out for a month or three.

This article about W7 is about as good as you'll find out there:

No one has to worry about not liking it. It's XP but with a different look and feel.

Not a bad idea for those paranoid one's though. I don't know if anyone will want to spend the extra cash on a harddrive and replace it themselves or spend money on someone else doing it.
