I agree. I don't like how they look all the way to the front of the hood. I like how you do it. I have the same clearcoat issue on the hood of my Cruiser. I blacked out the center too (short-term fix) until I repaint the hood this summer.

Vertical shackles can limit droop but they also won't ride as well. It can be a little stiffer ride with vertical shackles.

My AP shackles aren't vertical but they're still pretty steep. Never been an issue. Rides nice and flexes just fine.

Shocks and B-stock retrofit parts came in this week. Did quick mock up to see what I'd look like. Hopefully shock install goes smooth this week.

Do the solid spacer, makes it easier during set up, you don't have to fuck with the crush sleeve all you do is put an impact on the pinion and send it home, it's also much much stronger during an impact.

Thanks Adam, yeah this is just a temporary fix until I Pony up and get them sprayed. I think I would probably just do my whole truck. My roof looks 100x worse than The spot on the hood did, tops of fenders are starting to go also... I'm waiting on the Prinsu rack to be available ,that should hide the roof lol.

I learned my lesson on shackles the hard way. Way more detrimental aspects to longer shackles than they're worth. They'd be just fine with longer springs, but for all the off-the-shelf options, stock shackles provide the best performance IMO. None of these springs change in length enough to ever use the range of motion of the shackles anyways.

Modified my leaf pack to suit my lift needs, perfect shackle angle with stock shackles:

    IMAG1034_zpsixh6movd_d867f8428f88a039612ac90c9e47f1f0073ce6dd.jpg

Didn't really loose any droop either, same poser rock:
    2" lift shackles:

Look at the shackle angles, gained uptravel too. Need my can of worms smiley.

And to head back on topic, got a little start on my custom mid skid project:

Solid spacer is totally worth it. Otherwise every time you set the pinion it uses a crush spacer.

Basically the solid spacer is reusable. And it won't get loose over time.

Pretty much has already been explained. But as others stated. Limits some travel but the biggest thing is the spring length. Because it's not changing you loose up travel and are putting the spring more towards the bottom of its droop.

The ideal shackle angle is 45°.

That said. I still have lift shackles. But my angle isn't that bad as they are only 1" lift. 2" longer then stock. My geometry is also different being a 96 as 95-97 tacomas have shorter leaf springs.

Jk man, looks really good, glad that deal worked out for you, mod day was perfectly timed haha!

It should be fine to wheel on them. I'll have two spares on me too so if needed... Gotcha covered. But for cereal should be fine. You should replace or reboot asap tho. I got a Napa cv, as a replacement, and gonna reboot the one I pulled out.

    You doing a 8.4" or e locker?

With the 8.4" the master kits come with real stupid flimsy ring bearing spacers for the backlash. Id just buy the washer plates as Toyota calls them from toyota to set them. Much easier to use and heavier duty plus it'll be the right way to do it anyways.

Bad thing is you have no idea which ones you'll need till you've set the rig once and meassured back lash and figure out if you need to move the rig in or out.

You'll need a magnetic base micrometer too to measur backlash.

    7.5 ifs
My rear diff is 4.10 and when i converted to 4wd i was told the diff i got was 4.10 turned out to be 3.73 or something in that range
So im regearing the diff to 4.10 to match my rear
