OME 887 with Bilstein 5100

I've been researching all over trying to find out what the ride quality is for guys running this set up. I've found people that mention they're running the set up but no one really describes how it rides.
Currently I have the full procomp 3 inch lift with AAL, and as is well known, it's really rough up front, even with a slight weight gain from my SOS Concepts hybrid bumper. I don't have a winch yet, and don't know the status on when I'll end up with one as I'm fairly tight on budget, but I've been wanting to upgrade at least my front suspension to soften the ride a bit because of how it takes every single little bump in the road and turns it into a jarring ride.
Headstrong Offroad has given me the spring rates for all the OME coils and Eibach coils. I want to keep my lift as close to my current height, which is why they recommended the 887 coils to me. I know it's better to run OME with OME, but from all the people running OME with Bilsteins, specifically the 887 coils, what is your ride quality like? I'd imagine stiffer than stock, but honestly I don't remember what my stock ride felt like anymore because I've had the procomp lift on for a year now. As long as the ride is softer than my current set up, in other words, as long as it rides smoother on road and takes sudden bumps pretty good, and handles off road well at varying speeds, that's what I want to know.
I'd really appreciate input on this.

 

We had been wondering the same... We actually just ordered the 887's, we already have the 5100's right now. So we will have it on in a week or so once it comes in and we can let you know!

I actually just bought 887 with OME nitrocharger shocks, so not even I will be able to answer my own question. Looking forward to seeing how the OMEs ride

Cool. I'm probably either going to go with a full OME front/back setup OR 5100s with 887s and 5160s in back.

 

Did you go with the 90000 shocks? Or the 90021?

I just ordered 887s and trying to decide between 90000 and 90021. I don't have any weight up front, so I'm leaning towards the 90021 but I'm not sure.

 

The ones I bought from the guy on here are the 90000, which should work great with my slight extra weight.
Next time I have a little more money I'll upgrade my rear suspension with either more OMEs or 5160, either way I want to get a progressive leaf pack

 

I like the Dakar pack but not sure if the 5160s have enough travel for them.

 

Interesting how you are going with 887's. I have the OME 90000 with 886 coils and the ARB bumper with winch. I complained to ARB about the recoil being extremely hard. Long story short they warrantied out the complete set up with no change. Now they say I should use the 885 coil because the 886 is for a much heavier bumper. Yet when I had the 885's with the bumper I lost a lot of my lift; more than half.

I thought and still do that its the valving in the shocks thats the problem. So I called Bilstien about there 5100's and the say to only use the stock coil on them. Didnt have much to say about what I should do about handling the extra weight.

 

I've heard the 5160s didn't have enough travel before...
As for the 886, I'd always heard the arb bumper with a winch was supposed to be the setup that balanced out the stiffness of the 886 coils. That's why I went with the 887, they're longer but the same spring rate as 885, so you gain height without stiffening the spring. So I'm hoping they'll work out well

 

90000's are valved stiffer than the 90021's which are valved softer and you'll get a bit of a softer ride out of them. If you don't have a like 200+ lbs up front I'd go with the 90021's.

My 887's, 90021's, N182's (cheaper than the new nitrochargers), and LR UCA's are sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Maybe this weekend...

 

The 887s, dakars, 90000, and 60097 are in my garage. They screwed up and sent me 60097, instead of 60091 for the rear. And there was also a misunderstanding with their sku on the front shocks. Said they will swap the 90000 for 90021... But they are backordered at the Jacksonville warehouse for a couple weeks. That's why I was trying to decide if I should keep the 90000 or send them back and wait for the 90021.

Pretty much decided to send them back and wait... Killing me having all that sitting in there and not being able to install them though!

Yea that sucks about all the miscommunication/someone just not paying attention to what they grabbed off the shelf. Obviously I really want to get to my lift but I bought a new race toy on saturday... Yamaha YZ250F

 

That should definitely keep you occupied until you install your lift..
As for pics, I'll for sure post some when I get it installed. Curious how my ride will be.

 

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to get back on here. I had ordered the OME 887's, Full Dakar rear, and Fox Factory series remote 2.0's for the rear and am running Bilstein 5100's set at 0 up front. The ride is awesome and sits pretty level! Had no issues with the 887's on the Bilsteins.. Just ordered a Demello 3-hoop front bumper, so I will get to see how the lift holds up to weight in the front... Here's a few pictures after install:

 

Looks good man! You go with 285 or 265 tires?

Me and a buddy installed mine last Wednesday... Loving the ride!

But kinda wishing I went with 285s when I bought tires a few months back, the 265/75 just don't quite fill at the wheel well all the way. I am enjoying the 17 mpgs with the 265/75 tires though!

I went with 285 Duratrac's. I was lucky enough to find an amazing deal on the set of 5 on the 16" FJ TRD trail team wheels. So I couldn't pass it up! I have slight rubbing on the front fender plastic, but not too bad. I just need to get in there and heat it up again and mold it out of the way.

But yea I wouldn't mind 17mpg haha.. I think I am sitting around 14-15mpg... which is actually better than I was expecting!

 

I have 5100s and 887s with 285 duratracs. Ride is great. I honestly like it better than my stock sport's suspension.
