How much wood?

I picked up some lumber today and loaded it up with the tailgate up.
I was getting worried about causing damage to the tailgate, because I heard they're not very strong.
I had:
11 2x4x10
6 2x4x8
4 4x8 1/2 inch CDX plywood
All the wood was wet.
As you can see it's loaded down in the back, but the tailgate ended up being fine.
Any experiences?

As much as I dislike the long bed, this guy has a point. I'll have to go pick up some wood not long from now and not really looking forward to it. I recently put some dog kennel pieces in to make a 10 x 10 x 6 pen. I had the tailgate down and those 10 x 6 pieces were really hanging out. Good thing these things were strapped in nicely so they don't end up on the road somewhere.

 

I have a tailgate extender, a cheap harbor freight version that helps with long boards, and my kayak

Did you strap them in at the bottom? I feel like one good bump would cause them to tip out the back

 

I'd have probably dropped the tailgate and ratchet strapped the crap out of them.

 

You could probably do some awesome wheelies loaded up like that.

A Long Bed wouldn't help,because the wood would still rest on the tailgate.
I should have put the tailgate down, and strapped everything down well.
Dakkars help with sagging looks like OZ-T!
Oh well, everything worked out.

That's impressive!
So it's best to load it with the tailgate down then,
especially with heavy loads like 10 feet 6x6.

 

working at a wood mill, ive seen some incredibly sketchy ways of hauling wood. that looks completely fine to me.
