Top looks like cheesy, Chinese knock off with weird lines
Bottom looks simple, Clean, not cheesy

Sorry folks but the 3rd gen though loaded with cool features is an ugly thrown together design and wont remain as good looking 10 years from now like the 2nd gens have. An 05 today still looks good, same with an 00 first gen. I doubt the weird bloated odd shaped 15 will still look good in 2020 or 2025.

I should have been more specific. Obviously the front and rear quarter panels look different. I mean the panels on the doors. Some people were saying the window opening was different. Looks the same to me.

My other main gripe with the gen 3 is that the cab and the front/rear end look like they had different people design them (and I guess they pretty much did if you think about it). The front and and rear have a relatively sharp angles and countours while the cab looks plain Jane. Pretty much the exact same as the gen 2. I really wish they would have added some of those design cues of the front/rear to the cab. Almost looks like the truck was thrown together with spare parts...and again...it kinda was I guess...

This^ its just not cohesive, its all over the place front, back and cab. It could have been a really spectacular design in my opinion, alot of good elements in places.

Oh, well I agree with you there, the doors haven't changed really. I was talking about the rear in my original post.

Just a thought. If you could use a pair of calipers on a side view of both the 2 nd gen and the 3 rd gen and compare the height of the cab to the known height of the tires which in all makes is constant, (265-70-16 for the off road), you can get a relative approximation for the cab height using these ratios. ( entry and other measures as well)

The 3 rd gen appears to be deeper which would indicate they have tried to addressed the entry problem. I keep banging my shins on the dash when I climb into mine. On slight angle views, the comparison is not as valid but seems to reaffirm this. I have no problem with the basic design being the same. The grill appears to me to be similar with just the extension downward.

The 2nd gen is a classic.....otherwise, the design changes are all functional, rear gate and headlights and aryodynamics, rather then just an exercise in aesthetics. I like what they have done.

Is it just the image, or is the wheelbase going to be longer on the 3rd gen.? Do we know this yet?

The top is a DCLB and the bottom is a current DCSB....the blue limited 2016 is the one you need to compare too. I havent been keeping up with details but I'd assume not much is changed in wheelbase.

I think the 2016 Tacoma DCLB will look good with a 2 in lift, topper an some bike racks on top. I will get used to it in time. Just wish it were a clean-sheet redesign. I am a loyal Toyota fanboy. Not because it's cool, but because my '02 Tacoma has been loyal to me. Still runs like it's brand new.

Wheelbase is the same. The total length grew 4 inches. 3" up front, 1" in the rear.

So the approach angle is worse ? They lied about it being better off road.

Overall, I like it. Especially the interior and the tailgate/rear end.

3rd gen in that color is soo sexy!!

windows on doors kinda look the same, but the curve in the bottom is different than on the 2nd gen. love the new front end, but like some other comments why no full LED tail lights?(I.E. brake, turn and reverse)

Big fan but would like to see the actual specs once they're released. I'd drive one. Plan on buying new and driving for 10+ yrs then selling it with 150k miles for $18k... hahaha. gotta love toyota resale value...

The skewp on the 2016 looks much deeper and aggressive.

They will come when the model becomes older, just like they did with the 2nd gen. They came out with standard lights then what was is, 2008 they came out with led tail lights? They do that with a lot of their vehicles in order to "update" their vehicles. But they do have led running lights now on some trim levels.

I'm sure it will be an easy swap in a few years depending on how well this truck sells.
