I'd be worried about the province cutting corners. If something goes wrong whose accountable? Anyways I'm about sick of the BC pipeline anyways. IMHO Alberta should build a pipeline to Shelby, MT and rail car the oil to Seattle. It'd avoid the headache of trying to do anythiny economically positive in BC.

There's more than one way to get oil to China.

I just said that about 4 posts back ;). BC's government wants clean urban white collar jobs. They could give two flunks about shipping something potentially hazardous and that's fine. There is nothing wrong with that.

There's plenty of other ways to ship the oil out without bc, that's what I'm saying. If they dont want it someone else will.

BTW I'm a P. Ag. and the last job I'd ever want is reclamation and environmental protection. Those fields are known for being so corrupt it isn't even funny and you know at some point the hammer has to fall on someone when there's blame.

What role does/would a P.Ag have in reclamation and environmental protection?

I do have friends, in testing laboratories, and in Environmental engineering firms, and they take their job very seriously. I have seen the level of manpower required to cleanup an oil spill on the Pine River in the Pine Pass by Chetwynd. What is this corruption you speak of?

Google could of helped you here.

"The Profession of Agrology focuses on science as it applies directly or indirectly to the management of biophysical resources, food production systems, food security and safety, and environmental quality. The practice of agrology in Alberta encompasses four Agrology sectors: Life Sciences, Environment, Agriculture and Food."

    http://www.albertaagrologists.ca/files/documents/1_agrologyprofession_act.pdf

Reclimation work sign offss require a P Ag here. Agrology covers a lot more than farming. It's like saying an MD can only handle personal physical medical problems, and not psychology, biochemistry, etc.

I'm not saying that the people within the environmental reclamation field are crooked, but there is a TON of pressure for them to sign off on projects often before the proper testing has been rechecked. A lot of environmental reclamation sign offs have to do with reading reports that may be a few hundred pages long and deciding if in your professional opinion the work was done properly. If your boss expects you to do this from a desk, where you never see the site, and have it done within three days then mistakes are often made. A mistake in enviromental reclimation will result in a lawsuit somewhere over a 7 digit figure.

If you were the P Ag who signed off do you think you'll ever have a job again if that happens? It's happened to two people I know of personally. Why do you think everyone in management in the reclamation firms is ~50 years old and then there's a gap before you find the Agrologists at ~25 years old.... someone has to bite the bullet.

These are all well known facts in the field. Are there good companies out there that treat their P Ag's right? Sure. There are also a lot of companies though that are just trying to collect project cheques as fast as possible and they are willing to cut corners, and expect there P Ag's to follow suit.

That's actually one of the reasons why P Ag under the AIA got rolled into environmental reclamation. There was a hope that it would lead to more ethical behavior since it would give the P Ag the option to refuse work and be protected. From my point of view though it hasn't work out. Not yet anyway.

The labs I work with do a great job! That being said there are a ton of labs, not the one's I work with, that are tied to micro nutrient companies or landscaping nurseries that sell products into the field (COUGH COUGH the lab in London, ON COUGH COUGH.) How can those companies not be in conflict of interest when in there recommendations they tell you which of their in house products will "fix" your problem. They often base there "scientific analysis" off of nutrient ratios, which were debunked as a pseudo science a few years ago. Sure ratio's matter, but if there's not enough of what you need, or too much, in the soil it doesn't matter what ratio of some $$$$ micro nutrient you apply the soil will still yield shit all. At least at my company we give you the recommendations without and with products attached, so you can choose your own approach. We also approach everything from the agronomic side and not the economic side. We come up with solutions that will fix problems, not solutions that look cheaper but won't yield any real tangible results.

No offense, but don`t tell me about my job. I`m actually in the field [IMG].

You could be right DoorDing that BC won't cut corners. It's not so much the corner cutting but the bureaucracy and ass covering that I'm worried about. In my experience the more government presence and/or organizations involved in something the slower and less efficient things get done, if they got done at all.

Here's a case where reclamation was done improperly by several firms; tests where not looked over correctly and the appropriate remediation was not done. It took the province over 4 years to respond with there legislation. I call that pretty slow.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...p-in-bowness-taken-over-by-province-1.2648462

This is just one case. If you really want me to I'll start asking my buddies for more information on stories that may or may not of hit the news yet. Did you know there are hundreds of spills in Alberta every year... it's a good thing that all of the reclamation companies and legislation have done such a good job handling ALL of them .

I said wants, not has :p. I thought you were a grammar nazi OZ, you should know better.

EDIT Oh, I see 1,827,000 out of 2,289,000 people employed in trade, warehousing, finance, real estate, business, etc. Show me a chart over 20 years, instead of 3, and I'll show you that trend has been growing in most provinces for a long time, Alberta included. The difference is that in Alberta at least our government attempts to make serious progress in fields like Agriculture and Oil/Gas. BC's government has no interest in those jobs because they tend to be "polluters" and we all know how BC feels about that label.

You mean like BC's push to be a global leader in LNG production and export to Asia ?

How much LNG is BC pushing through, I'm curious? Is it coming from Fort St. John or are they just letting Alberta ship theirs?

Not doubting you, they could be. I really shouldn't of tied gas, as in LNG or PNG, in that statement. Natural gas, other than it's GHG properties is a very clean fuel to ship.

At least Alberta and BC care about work. In NS they don't seem to care about white collar or blue, environmentally friendly or disastrous.
NS: Where trades are treated like slaves and business owners are taxed to death.

Green party seeks election in every province. bloc only seeks election in Quebec, they're not a national party.

Which trade? Here sheet metal and a few others don't make that much , but if you are a good plumber, electrician, or welder you have a free license to print money. The only trick is getting a apprenticeship because they are pretty competitive.

OMG Thanks. I just thought with a bold statement like "world leader" you might have some numbers to back that up.
