Abs

So i was driving in the mud today and noticed that when i turn the wheel back and forth vigorously it feels like something in the front end is grinding (the sound sounds like gears grinding kinda) when the wheels start skidding., it almost feels like the ABS is kicking in. I am not touching the brakes and it does it in 2WD or 4WD. It only does it in mud. i was wondering if the ABS is supposed to kick in which it doesn't feel right because when it starts grinding the wheel is really hard to turn and i can feel it through the whole truck. Has anybody ever experienced this? Any help would be great!!

 

alright i'll check it out, i didn't say but the ABS works fine when applying the brakes if that helps

It does it when no throttle is applied as well.

 

if the ABS wire came off a sensor or was torn off by any kind of debris, the ABS light would be on in the dash..something else is going on

 

Everything is normal when you're out of the mud?

If yes...then perhaps there's a lot of debris (rocks, sticks, clumps, etc) in the mud that you're grinding againest. All that crap can get into your brakes & in & around all your mechanicals.

If & when you get on flat ground (out of the mud) - then take some time to drive slowly in reverse and put the brakes on & off. This is supposed to help dislodge any rocks/debris that might be stuck in your brakes.

 

Sounds like the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) kicking in. It uses the ABS system to brake individual wheels in an attempt to control oversteer/understeer skidding. There should be a button to disarm the VSC on the left side of the steering wheel, when disarmed you should see a light displayed on the instrument cluster.

Definitely sounds like your VSC. What you are describing is normal to feel when the VSC kicks in.

 

all right i think yall got it. I think your right about the VSC. i was turning it off but i was just pushing the button in and let it out right away. that makes the AUTO LSD and VSC light come on. i read in my manual and it said to hold the button for more than three sec and that made the AUTO LSD light go out and the VSC stay on, so i think that is it. i need some more rain so i can test it out lol. But i think yall solved that one, thanks a bunch i'll let ya know what i find out in a couple days when i find some mud!!

 

Hey i do have a question? does the sports and off road have abs on them? if they do is it located on the left side part when we're facing the engine?
was curios because i saw a photo of a sport that has the abs system located there but mine dont have one...or is it maybe its an offroad model so the abs is the same like the switch that says anti-skid?

Damn, I thought this thread was about my complete lack of a washboard stomache.

 

guess have to call the dealer that i got this truck from. and thats why i am asking ur opinion and help bout the vsc and abs... well thanks for the help anyways
