Not to sound like a total pavement princess, but I've been running these tires for a couple months and I'm now noticing that parts of the tire appear stained an off-brown color. It seems to be happening on the most indented parts of the tire, and somewhat uniform around the entire circumference.

Anyways, it's not the end of the world, I've just never seen this with other tires before and was wondering if it was normal. I washed the truck yesterday and hit these areas with a soapy brush, but it didn't change anything.

Lay off on the soy that powers you, could be the culprit.
On a more serious note, there was a thread on this a while back, thought they may have been Hankooks also.

My tires do that as well. Normal soap doesnt seem to help. A tire and wheel cleaner from your favorite auto parts store should work. I use mequires tire and rim cleaner. Spray on and the muck comes right off.

Yeah mine do the same thing. I got mine last July and about a month later mine started doing the same thing. I now use 303 protectant on them. I do have to apply it every 3 or so weeks or it starts to come back. I had a set on my 99 Tacoma a couple years back and they didn't do that.

Why is everything you recommend so expensive??

I'm not sure I'd get it for my tires - but I've been looking for something to protect my vinyl tonneau cover. This stuff looks perfect for that.

Stuff that actually works tends to cost a bit more

Tire blooming. Stole the following from here http://www.detailingspot.com/?page_id=19

Modern rubber formulas used by tire manufactures contain an ingredient called Antiozonant. An antiozonant is a chemical that tire manufacturers add to the tire rubber to help prevent rubber degradation (cracking, splitting, oxidizing, and overall deterioration) due to the rubber’s interaction with ozone (an odorless gas that is part of the air we breathe). Quite interesting is the fact that tire rubber is designed to constantly work the antiozonant to the outside of the tire as it rolls – in this way, the outside surface of the tire is continually replenished with fresh antiozonant. This process provides the positive result of ozone protection, but the negative result of tire browning – once the antiozonant gets exposed to the ozone in the air, it turns brown due to oxidation.

They're tires. They're the contact point between your truck and what it's doing. They're supposed to get beat to shit.

Thanks for this . It helps me understand why tires do that and that there is no getting away from it.

BLACKNESS!! My tires are black again! And not a moment too soon - as I could swear they were getting browner as the week went on. Looking at that picture I posted from earlier this week, I'm sure of it.

Got my bottle of 303 in the mail ($24 ffs) and immediately went out to the garage. I love this stuff. I started off applying it by towel, but there are just too many deep grooves for a towel. So after applying a good coat of 303 around the tire, I went in with a shop brush and brushed it in until it the whole tire had a nice even, 'dry', matte finish. Basically the tires looks brand new, and not like that glossy tire shine crap.

Rubber in its natural state is white. Imagine having to keep white tires clean.
